As Penguin continues to campaign for mayor, Gordon has to protect Alice Tetch from her brother. Meanwhile, Bruce's copy hits the town with Selina.

  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike their campy comic book counterparts, Tweedledee and Tweedledum are intimidating, tough-as-nails wrestlers who provide some brute strength for the Mad Hatter.
  • Bait-and-Switch: For a minute, it looks like Bruce's clone is going to jump to his death, but in actuality is jumping onto the roof of a truck on the street below, which breaks his fall.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After two thugs capture Selina and nearly chop off her fingers, Bruce's clone breaks in Just in Time and gives them a merciless thrashing.
  • Cliffhanger: Two of them — Bruce's copy is abducted by the Court of Owls, and Barnes is infected with some of Alice's blood.
  • Death Seeker: Tetch hypnotized Gordon into this. Though Gordon has become one deep down, since Tetch can tap into a person's innermost thoughts. But Gordon was able to overcome it and let go of the pain of his break up with Leslie.
  • Eye Scream: The episode ends with a drop of Alice's infected blood falling and landing in Barnes' eye. We then get a Gross-Up Close-Up of his eyes turning bloodshot with a nasty, wet crackling sound.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Bruce is clearly upset that Selina kissed his copy.
  • Heroic Willpower: Gordon is the first person we've seen snap out of Tetch's mindfuckery by an act of will.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: While struggling to escape her brother's grasp, Alice falls off a ledge and lands onto a pipe, impaling her right through the chest.
  • Mythology Gag: True to the character, the Mad Hatter sets up his own mad tea party for Alice, whom he dresses up to resemble the book character. In the comics, this is a schtick that he pulls off constantly.
    • Like in Batman: The Animated Series the Mad Hatter blames the hero for losing Alice (see Never My Fault).
    • As in the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice falls... just not down the rabbit hole.
    • Harvey was a private investigator for a very long stretch of time in the comics. (years of real time)
  • Never My Fault: Tetch's reaction to Alice falling to her death after trying to escape from him? Yelling at Gordon, "You killed her!"
  • Police Are Useless: The Gotham Police Department have always been pretty bad, but they reach a new low here. Two average wrestlers manage to break into the main police headquarters and take down several officers. Somehow nobody can fight them, and nobody tries to shoot them.
  • Rewatch Bonus: "I can't be bought but can be stolen with a glance. I am worthless to one but priceless to two - what am I?" If you watch carefully, Edward traces a heart around Penguin's face in the air, both times.
  • Shout-Out: A single drop of infected blood fell from above and landed square into someone's eye, causing that person to become infected.
  • Sibling Incest: Jervis really likes his sister. The feeling is not mutual.
  • Take That!: As per the Word of God parody of Donald Trump's presidential bid, a reporter notes that Penguin's mayoral campaign consists solely of "name-calling and fear-mongering."
  • Undying Loyalty: Bullock to Gordon, helping him even at the potential risk to his career.
Barnes: One of these days, Gordon is going to get you killed.
Bullock: Maybe. But until then, I will never turn my back on him.
  • Villainous Friendship: Nygma and Cobblepot's bromance is as strong as ever, with the former going out of the way to prove the love the city has for the latter, just like him.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Penguin wins a landslide victory, legitimately.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Combined with Would Hit a Girl; the two goons at the Bang Bang Room have no problem with tying Selina up and cutting her fingers off one by one. Thankfully, Bruce's clone saves her before any damage can be done.
