As the Tetch virus tears Gotham apart and Gordon fights off his own infection, Fish makes her move to secure control of the virus for herself. Meanwhile, Bruce finally confronts The Man Behind the Man: Ra's al Ghul.

Tropes

  • Back for the Dead: Fish Mooney, after making sporadic appearances all season, shows up prominently in this episode, only to get stabbed in the stomach and die.
  • Character Death: Fish Mooney, and this time it looks permanent.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Just like both his parents, Fish dies in Penguin's arms.
  • Easily Forgiven: Penguin lampshades this, admitting that even he's surprised that Fish has forgiven him for killing her.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Fish's gang vs the League of Assassins.
  • Hate Plague: The opening sequence showcases how the Tetch Virus is turning the exposed area of Gotham into a war zone, with even little old ladies and Girl Scouts running loose in a murderous frenzy.
  • Heir Club for Men: Just like his comic counterpart, Ra's desperately wants an heir, and has his eyes on Bruce.
  • The Immune: Turns out, Jervis Tetch's blood is the key to developing a cure for his sister's virus.

  • My God, What Have I Done?: The look on Gordon's face after he kills Fish.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The League of Assassins comes out of nowhere to claim the Tetch virus cure, catching everyone by surprise.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Strange is trying to flee Gotham when Fish tracks him down and grabs him.
  • Villain Team-Up: Fish has allied with Penguin and his army of "freaks" to take over Gotham.
  • Visionary Villain: Penguin calls Fish this, saying that she's going to rebuild Gotham for people like him and the other freaks.
  • While Rome Burns: Nygma quotes the Trope Namer while sitting in a high-rise, watching the virus-induced chaos tear Gotham apart.
