Recap / Goosebumps (1995) S3E2 "My Best Friend is Invisible"

Go To

Based on My Best Friend is Invisible, book #57 of the original Goosebumps series.

Sammy Jacobs discovers an invisible boy hiding out in his house.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Simon is cut out, as well as the cat.
  • Adaptational Villainy: While Sammy and his parents in the book are revealed to be aliens, with Brent being one of the few humans alive, they're still implied to be nice enough people. In the episode it's revealed that the aliens actually took over Earth and Brent turned invisible to escape them, and the episode ends with Sammy and his parents ganging up on Brent.
  • Blatant Lies: The aliens promise Brent that they're nicer than the other aliens and wish to protect him with a big Slasher Smile on their face.
  • Human Aliens: Unlike the book, the aliens look completely human until The Reveal. They then reveal their face is actually on the back of their head.
  • The Law of Conservation of Detail: We see the parents of the kid protagonist working on something. It turns out it was a device to expose invisible people and the plot has an invisible friend.
  • Synchro-Vox: Used to depict the alien Jacobs family. They have a second set of eyes and a mouth on the back of their head.
