You've Been Gilmored

Paris gets voted out and they can't agree on a new editor, so they nominate and vote in Rory. Paris evicts her for it. She ends up moving in with Logan. Michel is tired of Luke being their handyman. Christopher visits Rory at Yale. Luke meets the parents – again.

Tropes

  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: Paris quits her job as editor. After she leaves the staff room, everyone cheers.
  • Artistic License – Geography: Richard declares that he has bought Exit-36 to 38. Why Richard and Emily would buy a stretch of highway in Georgia is a bit of a mystery.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Lorelai gets so caught up in praising her mother for changing the subject smoothly that she forgets to answer the question she changes it with.
  • Companion Cube: Rory thinks her books look sad after being bannished to the hallway.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Rory calls Paris "hot-plate Harriet".
  • Godwin's Law: Downplayed: Even Hitler came out of his bunker once in a while. Paris never comes out of her cardboard fortress that serves as her office in the newsroom.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Richard and Emily question whether April really is Luke's daughter, seeing as a twelve-year-old and her uncle performed the DNA test.
  • Mathematician's Answer: Lorelai informs Rory that June third will still happen this year even if there's no wedding on that day.
  • Meet the In-Laws:
    • Luke has to do it again after he got back together with Lorelai.
    • Logan meets Christopher.
  • Messy Hair: Paris on her last day as editor looks like she hasn't brushed her her at all during her short tenure.
  • Must Have Coffee: Defied. Rory suggests everyone in the newsroom get coffee, but a girl says she's already so wired she's jumping out of her skin, so the idea is shot down.
  • No, Except Yes: Emily gets Lorelai to agree to bring Luke next Friday by establishing that neither one is saying "no", they're just not saying "yes".
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Emily suggests she and Richard can disguise themselves with glasses and fake noses to visit Yale.
  • Product Placement: X-box 360
  • Properly Paranoid: Emily and Richard find it suspicious that April showed up just when Luke got engaged to a woman of means.
  • Running Joke: Yale journalists saying they won't vote for someone as editor and apologizing to them.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Lorelai fantasizes about being Mrs. George Clooney.
    • Rory gives the following advice to her mother: Don't Speak.
    • Paris doesn't want to be Judith Miller at her newpaper, as she would have to overdo her lipstick.
    • Lorelai claims Emily and Richard were extras on March of the Penguins.
    • Michel accuses Luke of dressing like a Peanuts character.
    • Lorelai comments that Emily and Richard have more horror stories than W. Somerset Maugham. Luke doesn't remember which one he was.
    • Lorelai's inner jury is out on all rich handsome dudes because of Brad Pitt.
    • Chris once got Lorelai Pat Benatar tickets for her birthday.
    • Rory had a peaceful normal day hanging out with her Dad, which Lorelai thinks is very 7th Heaven.
    • Rory sees through Lorelai's act because she doesn't call her Hester Prynne.
  • The Starscream: Paris's interpretation of Rory is that she's this.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Christopher feels like this as he tells Lorelai that Rory moved in with Logan, and asks her not to rat him out about ratting Rory out.
  • Title Drop: Lorelai informs Luke that he's been Gilmored.
  • Trophy Wife: A guy named Brian Hunter had one, but she left him because he didn't update his insurance policy.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Or at least awkwardness. When Luke and Lorelai discuss the dinner afterwards, they talk about how Emily and Richard kept refering to Luke as family, meaning they on some level validated their relationship. They don't know how to feel about it.
