Go To

Original air date: 4/21/2022

When Sam and Jay refuse the Farnsbys' offer to buy their bed and breakfast, the Farnsbys open a rival B&B to drive the younger couple out of business; Thorfinn reveals that he placed a Norse curse on the mansion to prevent a B&B from ever being opened.

Tropes:

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Upon hearing that Thorfinn put a curse on Sam and Jay, some of the ghosts react with skepticism, which irks Alberta because they're ghosts with supernatural abilities.
Alberta: We're stuck in an endless purgatory...we saw a guy go down on us a couple weeks ago...and curse is where you draw the line?
  • Brick Joke: Early on, the contractor warns Sam and Jay about a termite-eaten beam on the basement. About halfway through the episode, the cholera ghosts point out how the beam is starting to give way every time someone walks over it upstairs. At the very end of the episode, the beam finally gives way, dropping Sam and Jay into the basement just as they are greeting their first guests.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Farnsby's have a picture of an upside-down pineapple in the foyer of their house.
  • Commonplace Rare: To counter Thorfinn's curse, Sam and Jay need to procure two very rare ingredients — a pound of sugar and a spice known as cinnamon. While rare in Thorfinn's time, both are of course readily available in the 21st Century.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The Farnsbys opened their own B&B to drive Sam and Jay out of business without considering that their smaller house meant that they would have to personally deal with guests they dislike.
  • Floorboard Failure: Just as Sam and Jay are greeting their first guests, the termite-eaten beam gives way, and both drop down to the basement.
  • Haunted House: The Farnsbys also have a ghost, Judy, residing inside their house just like Sam and Jay's.
  • Start My Own: To undercut Sam and Jay's B&B, the Farnsbys start their own and steal away many of their guests. Judy, the ghost haunting the Farnsby's home, reveals to Sam that they actually hate running it.
  • You Can See Me?: Judy Farnsby's exact words when she sees Sam looking at her.
