Liyue is a rocky and mountainous nation south of Mondstadt, governed by Morax, the Geo Archon and God of Contracts known to his worshippers as "Rex Lapis." One of the wealthiest nations in Teyvat, Liyue prides itself for its strong business tradition, overseen by the Qixing, a committee composed of seven merchants and businessmen who answer directly to Rex Lapis and implement his rules in between the annual Rites of Descension, during which the Archon personally appears before the populace to pass judgments and predictions for the coming year. In addition, the Qixing oversees the Millelith, its military force; the Ministry of Civil Affairs, which handles matters outside business; and the Eight Trades, a council representing major industries in the nation. To the sparsely-populated north reside the adepti, godlike beings who once served Rex Lapis early in his reign and has since secluded themselves as humanity grew prosperous.

Liyue Harbor [Sea of Clouds]

The eponymous capital of Liyue, the economic hub of Teyvat, is located on a harbor along the southern face of Mount Tianheng where, two thousand years ago, Rex Lapis brought his followers as a safe haven following a cataclysmic war between the gods. At the northeastern corner is Feiyun Slope, an affluent district and seat of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as well as high-end restaurants such as Liuli Pavilion and Xinyue Kiosk, and the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, where Zhongli works under its young, quirky director, Hu Tao. To the northwest lay Yujing Terrace, site of the world-famous Bubu Pharmacy, the Yuehai Pavilion, seat of the Qixing, and Yiyan Temple, site of the Rite of Descension. To the south lay Chihu Rock, a commercial and harbor district, among whose most notable sights are the local branch of the Adventurers' Guild; Wanmin Restaurant, owned by the family of Xiangling, one of the Traveler's first Liyuan friends; and Yanshang Teahouse, an exclusive restaurant owned by Yelan, an enigmatic self-proclaimed spy for the Qixing.

A Teapot to Call Home: Part I

Madame Ping, having heard of the Traveler and Paimon's habit of camping out in the wild, proposes to create for them a pocket dimension to call home using her adeptal art of "Sub-Space Creation" after they bring her the rare Smaragdus Jadeite ore. Ping then introduces the duo to Yanfei, a young adeptus and legal consultant, who, having heard of the Traveler's ordeals in Liyue, notes that they wouldn't have gone through them had they met her sooner.

Together with Yanfei, the Traveler tries to buy the Jadeite from Krosl, a Shezhnayan merchant; in turn, he asks them to check in on Zhiqiao, a woman who has bought a hairpin inlaid with the ore. Unfortunately, Zhiqiao admits that she lost the hairpin, and fears paying an exorbitant fine, though Yanfei suspects Krosl of having sold her a counterfeit, given that real Jadeite bears strong elemental energy and can be harmful to people without Visions, and that she found some traces of energy near Krosl.

To coerce him into confessing, Yanfei and the Traveler produce three affidavits: from Shitou, to whom Krosl had his ores cut, the shavings of which Zhiqiao, a descendant of a mining family, identifies as the less rare Smaragdus Nephrite; Xingxi, owner of Mingxing Jewelry, through whom Krosl had a jewelsmith craft the hairpin; and Baizhu, who confirms the side effects of the Jadeite.

Faced with incontrovertible evidence, Krosl confesses to having sold Zhiqiao a Nephrite-inlaid hairpin, and that he is facing pressure from his peers to make a profit from the Jadeite despite having experienced their negative effects. Rather than force him to pay her ten times her supposed fine per their contract, Zhiqiao relents and instead offers him to work with her in exchange for giving up his Jadeite.

A Teapot to Call Home: Part II

The matter settled, Yanfei parts ways with the Traveler and Paimon while they turn to Madame Ping, who creates a pocket dimension for them called a "Serenitea Pot".

Inside the Serenitea Pot, the Traveler meets Tubby, a finch-like spirit who serves as building coordinator for building projects within.

At Qingce, Lu, citing his age, delegates the job to Dayu, an apprentice carpenter, while Ruoxin remarks on the age of the old stage. After the Traveler brings him pine wood and red dye, Dayu prepares to head south.

However, Er'ye remains obstinate despite Liu Su's warnings that the poor acoustics of the current stage is driving away customers despite the popularity of Yun Jin, threatening to jeopardize the house's decades-old partnership with her Yun-Han Opera Troupe. Yun Jin then arrives and tries to convince Er'ye to change his mind, only to be rebuffed upon mentioning that she visited Ruoxin, claiming the stage is as good as it is.

Upstairs, Yun Jin explains to the Traveler and Liu Su that Er'ye has grown attached to the stage, where he and Ruoxin used to perform together, preserving it years after she married and, upon retirement and being widowed, settled down at Qingce, where Yun Jin frequently visits her. Returning downstairs, Yun Jin relays to Er'ye a message from Ruoxin that she's saddened at him making things difficult for himself, which he interprets as a sign that he needed to let go of the old stage, though Yun Jin suggests renovation rather than replacement. The Chasm

A large mining shaft at the far west of Liyue, said in legends to have been the crater of a meteorite that crashed six millennia ago then rose up during the Archon war four millennia later, as well as where Azdaha lived before he was sealed away by Rex Lapis after going on a rampage, and where one of the Yaksha, the battle adepti of Liyue, disappeared during the cataclysm five hundred years ago. By the time of the Traveler's journeys, a mysterious series of accidents caused the mine to be closed off a few years ago, though recently the Qixing began a gradual reopening. The Chasm's geologic activity is evidenced in its variety of geographic features, from the towering Cinnabar Cliff and Glaze Peak to the valleys of Fuao and Lumberpick. Following paths through the Surface and Tiangong Gorge lead to the Chasm's Maw, the entrance to the depths of the Chasm that had been sealed off by the Qixing years ago.

Beyond the Chasm's Maw lay a massive mining shaft, consisting of the Ad-Hoc Main Tunnel leading to the Main Mining Area, as well as the Serpent's Cave, where a serpent-like machine lay in wait of unwary spelunkers, and the Underground Waterway, where the Traveler finds the survivors of a Fatui company stranded for many years; in addition, north and east of the Mining Area are a pair of trees, the former withered like the one found at Dragonspine, the latter bursting with life. During the evacuation of The Chasm the miners blocked the entrance to the Stony Halls, a cave containing a strange crystal attributed with the accidents that necessitated the mine's closure. After the Traveler clears the miasma around it, the crystal burrows underground to reveal another layer to the mines: the Nameless Ruins, an inverted tower said to hail from a civilization predating the Archon War; the Glowing Narrows, a cave system so-named for the glowing plant life therein, in particular a giant, sentient mushroom; and the Chasm Nail, an object similar to the Skyfrost Nail and source of the crystal found at the Stony Halls. Further underground lay the Chasm's Bed, a mysterious area where time and space is distorted.

World Quests

    The Chasm Delvers
Released: v2.6 "Zephyr of the Violet Garden" (March 30, 2022)
World Effect: Unlocks The Chasm: Underground Mines in the map
Prerequisite Quests: "A New Star Approaches" (Archon Chapter I, Act III); "Bookworm Swordsman" (Fabulae Textile [Xingqiu] Story, Act I)

The Chasm Delvers

In Liyue Harbor, the Traveler received a special commission from either Lan or Xu to find Muning, an officer of the Ministry of Civil Affairs overseeing the security over The Chasm, a large mine west of Lisha sealed years ago after miners uncovered a strange object the Qixing fears may bear a curse—the former, to remind him of outstanding debts from his drinking habits, the latter, to give him the mora Xingqiu lent him.

Surreptitious Seven-Star Seal Sundering

At the Qixing's monitoring post below Glaze Peak, the Traveler meets Muning, who, after warning them to stay away from the seal the Qixing placed over the hole leading to the mines, hands them a letter for Zhiqiong, an Adventurer hired by the Qixing, even as he suspiciously denies condoning her plan to break the seal.

The duo then meet Zhiqiong, who, after briefly gushing over the Traveler's feats, explains that the Qixing influenced the cityfolk into roping the Traveler into a special commission, before directing them to retrieve a Lumenstone Adjuvant, a special lighting device, from a safehouse, who finds it swarming with Treasure Hoarders when Zhiqiong was supposed to watch over it. Afterwards, Zhiqiong has the Traveler destroy five "Bedrock Keys" scattered throughout the surface of The Chasm, which cropped up a couple years ago, and from which the thing being sealed below is seemingly drawing energy, to break the seal. Upon returning to the post, and after some scolding from Muning over leaving her post, Zhiqiong introduces the Traveler to the rest of the expedition team: Khedive, a scholar from Sumeru and their financier; Jinwu, a veteran miner and their safety technician; and Taliesin, a bard from Mondstadt.

Chasm Spelunkers

With the seal undone, the depths of The Chasm is finally open, to Zhiqiong's excitement. After setting up a base camp, Jinwu asks the Traveler to ascertain the fate of Uncle He, a senior miner presumed dead after he missed the evacuation alert due to his poor hearing. They then find a Geovishap emitting a dark aura and a black, foul-smelling magma, alongside fragments of a diary that seem to detail Uncle He's descent to madness. Upon reporting back to Jinwu, she then asks the duo to find Zhiqiong, who is adamant in her adventures despite her warnings. They find her lamenting having lost her Kamera, so now she asks the Traveler to help her take photographs of the black magma, as well as the "Mountainator", a cannon used by miners for excavation, which Zhiqiong claims was also used to trigger a cave-in to seal off the mine's inner levels during their retreat.

First Miasmic Contact

NOTE: Runs concurrent with "Meeting New People... and Foiling Some Bandits"
While taking pictures of the first black magma they encounter, the Traveler, Paimon, and Zhiqiong are atacked by Abyss Mages, which leads to the latter wondering if they were attracted to the magma; at the second magma, the Traveler and Paimon catch a glimpse of a suspicious person stalking them.

Meeting New People... and Foiling Some Bandits

NOTE: Runs concurrent with "First Miasmic Contact"
While searching for the Mountainator, the trio chance upon a gang of Treasure Hoarders holding one of their own prisoner; after the Traveler drives them away, Zhiqiong recognizes the man as Clitopho, a former apothecary turned Hoarder who ran afoul of his colleagues for sabotaging them, who then offers his help with exposives despite her misgivings. Upon finding the latter, however, the ammunition is behind a sealed door, forcing the group to retreat to base camp for the time being.

Chasm Spelunkers (Part II)

Prerequisite Quests: "First Miasmic Contact" and "Meeting New People... and Foiling Some Bandits" (above)
Back at base camp, Jinwu appoints Clitopho as the team's demolitions expert, as their original hire, Klee, had been grounded after she blew up the stove at Good Hunter. Despite Zhiqiong's distrust, Jinwu vouches for him, having known him for many years, enough to trust that he is too good a man to be a real criminal.

The Heavenly Stone's Debris

While Zhiqiong maps more of the mines, the Traveler retrieves the cannonball after finding the two keys to its storehouse from water filtration devices. However, Clitopho assesses that the anomalies in The Chasm has drained it of Geo energy needed to detonate it, so he asks the Traveler to craft a special oil to restore its potency.

After Zhiqiong returns, as well as having to mediate between her and Clitopho anew, the Traveler releases the Mountainator's safety mechanism by adjusting three signal lamps, then uses the cannon to destroy the rubble blocking the mine's inner levels. There they see a strange crystal, not unlike those they saw in Dragonspine, surrounded by dark energy, which Zhiqiong claims was the reason The Chasm had to be closed, even as the Traveler expresses concern at her health seemingly turning for the worse the deeper they go.

After activating three devices and defeating several enemies, including an Abyss Herald, the crystal burrows underground, cleansing the air. Despite the Traveler's concern, Zhiqiong presses on, claiming to be inspired by tales of Stanley's adventures through Mare Jivari.

Perils in the Dark

Heading deeper where the crystal burrowed, the Traveler and Paimon see a chamber covered in a dark fog that seems to drive them away. After reading a journal detailing a failed Fatui expedition involving ringing a pair of bells that dispersed the dark fog but summoned an even greater threat that killed several agents and forced them to retreat, the Traveler decides to try their luck. Doing as the Fatui did in the report reveals a pair of Abyss Lectors, Agnarr and Egill, in the middle of the dark fog, against whom the Traveler narrowly prevails, receiving a strange device as a reward.

Wherefore Did the Spiritstone Descend?

To the Traveler and Paimon's surprise, Zhiqiong and the rest of the team have already gone ahead of them via a shortcut, and have set up a new camp south of the foggy chamber. The Traveler takes a much-needed rest, during which Jinwu confides to them that Zhiqiong, a daughter of a family of miners, is still too young to understand the hardship and perils of living in a mine, being only a teen when The Chasm was sealed off. Zhiqiong, still adventuring despite her deteriorating health, has returned to announce that she has found a sealed portal, which Khedive suggests can be opened with the device the Traveler has. Against his warnings, Zhiqiong goes ahead of the Traveler, leading Jinwu to worry that the miasma may have already affected her mind, not unlike similar reports during a calamity five hundred years ago.

At the sealed portal, the Traveler finally convinces Zhiqiong to retreat, while they and Paimon cross through its gates. At the end of a long tunnel, which Paimon thinks relates to a tale Zhiqiong told them of a great serpent burrowing through The Chasm, they find a crystalline, pillar-like structure, not unlike the Skyfrost Nail in Dragonspine, surrounded by a dark aura. Activating five devices that dispel the dark aura, however, awakens Haftvad, a serpentine, mechanical monstrosity that atacks the duo. While the Traveler struggles against it, they are helped by a mysterious woman from the shadows, who fires an arrow onto the pillar, sending it hurtling down and crushing Haftvad.

After struggling to process everything they just witnessed—the pillar, the serpent, and their mysterious benefactor—the Traveler and Paimon return to base camp, where Zhiqiong's health has slightly improved after the miasma largely dissipated with the defeat of Haftvad. Before the Traveler returns to the surface, Zhiqiong thanks them for accompanying her and asks them to report back to Muning on the expedition team's behalf.

Back at the surface, Muning also thanks the Traveler for helping clear the way for future exploration of The Chasm, even as he got an earful from Keqing, who came rushing out of worry for the Traveler's safety. After hearing the Traveler's reports on their mysterious benefactor, Zhiqiong's health, and Clitopho's addition to the team, as well as telling them that Khedive was on loan to the Ministry of Civil Affairs in an agreement with the Sumeru Akademiya, Muning thanks the Traveler for their services on behalf of the Ministry and promises them that henceforth they shall be free to explore The Chasm as they please.

    Valor's Afterglow
Released: v2.6 "Zephyr of the Violet Garden" (March 30, 2022)
Prerequisite Quest: "The Chasm Delvers" World Quest series

Valor's Afterglow

The issue in the depths of The Chasm may have been resolved, but Zhiqiong is far from done uncovering its secrets, and so ropes the Traveler and Paimon anew for another adventure, this time installing four surveying beacons throughout the dungeon. When pressed by the Traveler on her nigh-reckless adventuring, Zhiqiong claims to be inspired by tales of the Mondstadtian adventurer Stanley braving Mare Jivari, which came at the cost of his traveling partner, wanting to be remembered just like her idol, seemingly unaware that Stanley died in the desert saving his partner, Hans, who would live on to tell his tale under his identity.

Valor's Afterglow: Return by Sundown

After a few days, Jinwu alerts the Traveler that Zhiqiong has not returned from inspecting the beacons. After failing to find her anywhere near the beacons, the Traveler and Paimon find her elsewhere, delirious and surrounded by enemies. After Zhiqiong has been brought to base camp, Jinwu asks the Traveler to feed Zhiqiong a soup she made, even as she begins to have a strange respect for the adventurer's courage.

Valor's Afterglow: The Faint Light Remembered

A few days later, the Traveler returns to base camp to discover that Zhiqiong has gone missing again, with Jinwu more or less resigned to the fact that she cannot stop the adventurer from wandering to her heart's content. At Jinwu's request, they head up to the surface and inform Muning, who, despite his exasperation at her antics, considers her a friend, and thus sets up a search party. Meanwhile, the Traveler and Paimon head into the cave of the Chasm Nail, where they see an abandoned camp and a letter from Zhiqiong stating she is following an even deeper path down The Chasm, which Paimon doesn't see. The duo then return to base camp to present the letter to Jinwu, who has since come to respect Zhiqiong's life choices.

Should the Traveler continue talking with Katarina, she expresses hope that her blood-sister Lyudochka is doing fine; if the Traveler already met her in Inazuma, she hopes the latter is doing well, seemingly unaware that Lyudochka has already deserted her post and settled down as the second "Gendou Ringo."

A Company Vanishing Into the Deep

Released: v2.6 "Zephyr of the Violet Garden" (March 30, 2022)
Optional Prerequisite Quest: "Lost in a Foreign Land: Seeking" (World)
In an underground waterway, the Traveler and Paimon run into a group of Fatui begging for help—the remnants of the Ninth Company, reduced to de facto leader Anton Melnikov, Danila, Timur, and Radomir. After chasing off other Fatui lured to the food the Traveler cooked for them, Anton, defying Fatui protocol, asks the Traveler to search for supplies and orders from the station below the entrance to The Chasm. After fending off a pair of Treasure Hoarders, the Traveler and Paimon relay to the Company the bad news that diplomatic relations between Liyue and Snezhnaya have soured, and the Fatui are now personae non grata, in the wake of the Osial crisis, much to their confusion, lamenting that not so long ago they were hailed as heroes when they descended into The Chasm, and after some deliberation Anton and his comrades decide to escape in secret, thanking the Traveler for their help and hoping that the next time they meet shall be no longer as enemies. Should the Traveler continue their conversation, Anton reveals that he genuinely believes in the Fatui's stated mission of ridding Teyvat of remnants of the darkness that nearly engulfed the world five centuries ago, including that in The Chasm; that the Company used to number sixty-four before the perils within decimated their ranks, including his higher-ups; and that he believes Pulcinella, first-ranking of the Habringers to whom the Company answers, may have sent them to fight to the death while the other Fatui went about their business which may have resulted in the aforementioned falling-out. Additionally, had the Traveler met Katarina beforehand, he asks them to apologize to her on his behalf for failing to look after her and her younger brother and comrade-in-arms Nikolay.

The Missing Miner

In the underground waterway, after finding his notebook, the Traveler chances upon Uncle He, who barely survived years of being trapped inside The Chasm subsisting on nothing but mushrooms and suffering from itchy ears and a ghastly complexion. Upon returning to base camp, Jinwu fetches Khedive to check on Uncle He, who diagnosed him as relatively healthy apart from his itching ears being caused by mushroom spores and the adverse effects of consuming mushrooms in The Chasm on his mind. While Jinwu returns to the outside world to inform his loved ones of the good news after years of presuming him dead, Uncle He climbs up Cinnabar Cliff and gets into an argument with Tang Wuchou, on the assumption the latter is still a Treasure Hoarder, while foraging for mushrooms.

Prerequisite Quest: "The Chasm Delvers" (World Quest series)
Muning begs the Traveler to help find Qi Ding, one of the first new miners as part of The Chasm's partial reopening, fearing that he succumbed to madness in search of a "bounty" that would make his wish come true, similar to several cases years ago which were the reasons The Chasm was sealed. In the mine they find a delirious Qi Ding, who claims he lost an expensive palm-sized doll he bought for his daughter. While Qi Ding is put under the care of Jinwu and the expedition team, the Traveler finds a little girl claiming to be his daughter Qi Nan, who points them to the doll, only to disappear afterwards. Back at the surface, the Traveler hands the doll to a more lucid Qi Ding, who realizes he fell victim to the "Wish Granter"—the crystal the Traveler and Zhiqiong saw earlier in their journey—while trying to blow it up lest it continue to create more reasons for shutdowns, and is surprised that he begged them to find the doll and that they saw Qi Nan, who he reveals is already a young woman who has just passed her internship exams with the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
