• Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Played for Laughs. When some small boys want to play with Elicia, Winry's off-hand comment about how Elicia is already the "heart-breaker" invokes Hughes to pull out a gun and calmly threaten the boys that they'll answer to him if they "try anything funny" with his daughter. This is despite that they're only toddlers. In actual combat, Hughes is always shown fighting with knives and not guns.
• Contrived Coincidence: Just before Al starts a fight with his brother, Winry just happens to casually enter in their room, acting as the third party needed to clear the air for Al.
• Does Not Like Spam: Once again, Ed refuses to drink milk, since it would trigger his Berserk Button.
• It's All My Fault: As Winry calls Al out for thinking that Ed fabricated his memories, she tells him that since the day of the “resurrecting their mom” incident, Ed never stopped blaming himself for the whole ordeal, and he thought he ruined his relationship with his brother, but he was too afraid to ask him.
• Poor Communication Kills: After Ed storms off because of Al’s accusations, Winry not only hits the latter with a wrench twice, but she also tells him what Ed was trying to ask him for a long time but never had the courage to do so: that is, if Al hated him for what happened when they tried to bring their mother back to life, since Ed blamed himself for the incident and thought that his relationship with his brother was ruined.
• What the Hell, Hero?: Winry calls out Al on his paranoia of Ed fabricating his existence, especially when it wouldn't make sense for his brother to sacrifice his arm to create an artificial brother.
