Tropes present in this episode include:

  • The Bus Came Back:
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: King Bradley effortlessly mows down well over a dozen Briggs' Soldiers, deflects machine gun and cannon fire, and completely destroys a tank all with his sword and a single grenade.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: While Captain Buccaneer is absolutely no match for Bradley and loses his automail to him instantly, he takes several attacks from him that would have killed anyone else without trouble. This includes when he manages to get impaled through the torso, which he then uses the opportunity to disarm Bradley, leaving the sword stuck inside him.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Hohenheim never anticipated that Father had grown beyond the need for the "container" of his human body.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Wrath loses his sword after stabbing Buccaneer and has to make do with a pair of combat knives that he admits to being not as experienced with.
  • Eyecatch: Wrath and Greed.
  • Fan of Underdog: Greed agrees with Bradley on his viewpoint about humans, but admits he still quite likes them anyway.
Wrath: How ridiculous. Humans always make a point out of being foolishly stubborn.
Greed: Ah, you got that right! They always get so frantic in the heat of the moment. Like it's gonna do them any good. But pathetic as it may be, and they sure are, I still prefer to side with the underdog.
  • Hope Spot: Hohenheim and the souls within his Philosopher's Stone mange to fatally damage Father's physical body. Without his container, he can't survive and the Promised Day can be instantly stopped here and now. Unfortunately, they quickly learn Father has experimented upon himself and evolved past the need for a physical container...
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Greed admits that Ling gave him tips to fight Wrath, including hiding in his blind spot. Unfortunately for him, Wrath chooses this moment to take off his Eyepatch of Power and reveal his Ouroboros Tattoo underneath.
  • Insert Grenade Here: Bradley destroys the Briggs Tank by dropping an explosive inside through a hole he made in the viewing window.
  • Undying Loyalty: Fu displays this (yet again) towards Ling.
Greed: Nice moves, old man! Thanks for the help, really saved my ass!
Fu: I wasn't trying to save your ass, I was saving the body of the young lord!
Greed: [chuckles] Well, it's the same ass.
