The End of All Things
David Robert Jones holds Olivia and Nina captive to activate Olivia's Cortexiphan-induced abilities, torturing Nina to create the emotional trigger. Olivia recognizes from Nina's answers to questions about their shared past that this Nina is in fact the one from the alternate universe. Olivia plays along, claiming to Nina that her abilities could only be activated by being near Peter. Meanwhile, September appears in Walter's lab, bleeding from a chest wound. With Walter's help, Peter enters the Observer's mind to learn of Olivia's location. He discovers the Observers are scientists from one possible future of humanity. When September tried to observe the point where Peter's cure was discovered, he caused several unintended changes within the timeline, including the war between the two universes. September explains that Peter's reappearance may be a means to set things right, and insists he find a way to reunite with his original Olivia. Finally, September tells Peter to "go home". Peter wakes up in the lab, and September's body vanishes. Following September's advice, Peter returns to his home, from where he is abducted by Jones' men and brought to the same facility as Olivia. Olivia uses her powers to free herself and Peter, but Jones and Nina are able to escape. Peter admits to Olivia that he fears he has been unintentionally imprinting his memories of "his" original Olivia onto her. He leaves her, believing that staying away from her would be for the best.
Tropes
- Clip Show: A subtler version than most. While sharing consciousness Peter sees September's memories we see clips of previous events in the series, such as Walternate getting distracted from the cure by September's presence in his lab and Fauxlivia with baby Henry.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: Nina and Peter are subjected to this to scare Olivia into activating her Cortexiphan powers.
- Internal Reveal: Peter finally learns that he had a son, Henry, with Fauxlivia and that the baby was erased when Peter was erased from existence.
- Spotting the Thread: How Olivia works out that the Nina being held prisoner with her is a fake. The "Nina" with her believes she told Olivia not to call her "Miss Sharp" when Olivia and Rachel came to live with her. Olivia knows that that actually happened much later.
