Chandler and Phoebe pick an engagement ring for Monica. They keep it a secret from Ross and Joey, which leads them to think Chandler is mad at them for some reason. Rachel is concerned that Paul doesn't open up to her, but when he does, she finds it a little much.

- Accidental Theft: Phoebe is trying on jewels and playing with a musket in the store, when she sees another man walk off with Chandler's ring. She goes after him, forgetting to put down the items, and gets caged by the store's security system.
- Deadpan Snarker: The jeweller, when dealing with Phoebe.
- Do You Want to Haggle?: Phoebe haggles with the jeweler over the engagement ring, which costs 8600 dollars. She tries to settle it at 10. It predictably doesn't work, though Chandler manages to get it for 8000.Phoebe: Do you have anything for ten dollars?Jeweler: Yes, I have these two rather beautiful five dollar bills.Phoebe: I give you one dollar for them.
- Gone Horribly Right: Rachel wants Paul to be more open with her. Getting him to do so makes him dissolve into an over-sensitive pile of mush that she's not willing to put up with.
- Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Phoebe ends up trying on half the jewelry in the shop while waiting for Chandler to get back with his credit card.Phoebe: Too much?Jeweler: A tad.
- Incurable Cough of Death: Invoked when Phoebe pretends to be Chandler's dying fiance by coughing unconvincingly.Chandler: Yeah, she's dying...of a cough apparently.
- Inelegant Blubbering: Once Paul starts crying he can't stop himself and dissolves into floods of tears and loud sobbing.
- Internal Reveal: Chandler gets Joey and Ross to start speaking to him again by revealing that he's planning to propose to Monica.
- Lost Wedding Ring: The engagement ring Chandler wants gets bought by someone else while he's getting his credit card. He and Phoebe track the other guy down to get it back before he can use it to propose.
- Silent Treatment: Ross and Joey decide not to talk to Chandler, assuming he's mad at them. They drop it when Chandler tells them he's proposing to Monica, but go back to being silent when they realize Chandler told Phoebe before them.
- With This Ring: Chandler tries to buy the perfect engagement ring for Monica. While at the store he realizes he forgot his credit card and asks Phoebe to stay and hold the ring for him, but she gets distracted and another guy buys it. Chandler buys another ring and goes to ask the other guy to trade, succeeding after convincing him that Phoebe is his dying girlfriend.
