Recap / Friends S 5 E 7 The One Where Ross Moves In

Go To

After breaking up with Emily for good, Ross has nowhere to go and stays with Chandler and Joey. Rachel plays hard to get for Danny (the "yeti") when he invites her to a party. Phoebe dates a health inspector who finds issues in every restaurant they go to.

Tropes:

  • Awkwardly-Placed Bathtub: One of the apartments Ross views is so small the bathtub is in the kitchen. Chandler's suggestion that he could cook while bathing doesn't endear Ross to the idea. Joey on the other hand asks if they could fit a bathtub in their own kitchen.
  • Blanket Fort: Joey builds a fort out of Ross' boxes. Ross and Chandler join in the fun in The Stinger.
  • Funny Answering Machine: Ross changes Chandler and Joey's answering machine's message to Queen's "We Will Rock You", altering the lyrics to "We will, we will call you back." Chandler and Joey find this incredibly lame and it's just a prelude to the other issues they will have with Ross.
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X":
Ross: I'm really going to have to settle down. I'm beginning to feel like a nomad.
    [Joey giggles]
    Ross: What's so funny?
Chandler: He thought you said "gonad."
  • Late to the Realization: Chandler gets a call from a landlord, as Ross put him down as a reference. Feeling guilty about pressuring Ross to move out, Chandler sabotages things by lying to the landlord about him. Joey consistently fails to get what's going on, until after the phone call is over (by which point Ross has been described as a tap-dancing pimp that owns a large dog). Chandler barely humors Joey for realizing what he was doing.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Chandler and Joey after Ross realizes they've been pushing him to move out.
  • Not So Above It All: Chandler scoffs at Joey's Blanket Fort and him playing with hats, only to see Ross is already participating and inviting him to join in the fun. Chandler obliges.
  • Roommate Drama: Chandler and Joey find it annoying to live with Ross since he spoils their usual fun. They not-so-subtly force him to find some other place to live, only to feel bad about it in the end.
  • Wrote the Book: When Larry cites Monica for violating "Section 5" of the health code by not wearing her chef's hat Monica replies that "I wrote the book on section 5". Larry proceeds to trap her by sending her into the kitchen to fetch her hat, and since she's now in the kitchen and not wearing it she's in violation of the code.
Larry: And there's the two points.
Phoebe: (to Monica) Hey, you should really read that book you wrote.
