  • Ask a Stupid Question...: During the Thanksgiving Day Parade:
Chandler: The most unbelievable thing has happened. Underdog has gotten away.
    Joey: The balloon?
Chandler: No, no, the actual cartoon character. Of course the balloon.
  • Cannot Tell Fiction from Reality: Apparently most of New York; Joey is hired as a model for an ad campaign warning about STDs and most people (including his entire family) assume this means he actually has one.
  • Crappy Holidays: The gang's first Thanksgiving ends up being a pretty crummy affair. Rachel and Joey would rather be with their families, but can't because Rachel lacks the money and Joey's family is distancing themselves from him because they think he has VD. Chandler despises Thanksgiving and refuses to partake in any traditions. Monica busts her ass preparing personalized meals for everyone only to have it all burn and they all get into a huge fight over it. In the end however, they see Ugly Naked Guy together with an Ugly Naked Gal, making them realize that they have each other and that's what's really important, and so they dig into Chandler's grilled cheese sandwiches for their first Thanksgiving dinner together.
  • Feeling the Baby Kick: Despite thinking it's silly to attempt to talk to his baby through Carol's womb, Ross ends up doing so and even singing to it to one-up Susan. They end up feeling its first kick during this.
  • Freudian Excuse: Chandler loathes Thanksgiving, due to that being when his parents announced they were getting a divorce, which led to young Chandler throwing up the Thanksgiving dinner he had just eaten.
  • Friendship Moment: Chandler admits he actually liked how things worked out because it meant the group got to spend the day together.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: When the gang are locked out of the apartment, Monica launches on an angry speech about how she does so much work but the others don't show appreciation. She grows more and more emotional until she's at the point of tears and her words turn into unintelligible high-pitched sobbing.
Chandler: Okay Monica, only dogs can hear you now.
  • Key Confusion: After locking themselves out of Monica's apartment the gang try to use Chandler and Joey's spare key. Too bad it's in a drawer filled with "a zillion keys", all of them unlabeled.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: The first of many.
