Go To

Monica takes Rachel to the emergency room for her ankle, but since Rachel has no insurance, she pretends to be Monica to use her insurance. They meet two doctors and agree to date them, but they get into an argument in front of the doctors. They feel so guilty about the insurance fraud that they go back to the hospital and fill out Rachel's forms correctly.

Joey dates Ursula for a while but she tells Phoebe she's dumping him. Phoebe tries to let Joey down gently.

Ross feels like he won't be a good father, but after Marcel swallows a Scrabble tile and Ross takes him to the emergency room, he realizes he will know how to take care of his child.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: The doctors who treat Rachel are played by George Clooney and Noah Wyle, at the time playing doctors on ER (they aren't playing their ER characters, so this isn't a crossover).
  • Be the Ball: Ross has a nightmare that he's playing football with his son... as the ball!
  • Birthday Party Goes Wrong: Phoebe's Surprise Party doesn't go very well. Ross brings the cake, which he drops because others scare him, shouting "Surprise!" prematurely. They try to save the cake somehow and completely miss Phoebe is coming. What's worse, Joey, one of her closest friends whom she really wanted to see, doesn't even show up at the party because he's dating Ursula, Phoebe's Evil Twin.
  • Carrying a Cake: Ross drops Phoebe's birthday cake when he comes in and the others, thinking it's Phoebe, yell "Surprise!" and spook him.
  • Noodle Incident: Dr. Rosen starts to point out the problems they have had with dating women they meet at the hospital, but Dr. Mitchell points out "no pagan altars, no piles of bones in the corner."
  • Truth-Telling Session: While pretending to be each other on the double date Rachel and Monica start revealing each other's secrets to embarrass each other in front of their dates.
