While flying a plane containing the Lobe, Cave Guy, Longhorn, Candle Jack, and Cobra Queen to a new prison in France, Freakazoid ends up crash-landing on an island. As Candle Jack scares Professor Jones and Cobra Queen helps Steff fix the plane, Freakazoid, Cosgrove, the Lobe, Cave Guy, and Longhorn go out into the jungle to look for provisions, but are abducted by the evil Dr. Mystico and his Orangu-Men.

Tropes in this episode:

  • As Himself: Leonard Maltin.
  • The Cameo: Parodied with Emmit Nervend, who is supposed to have a walk-on cameo as a dancer. Said role has him dancing across the plane's aisle just as it's starting to lose altitude, right in the foreground no less.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Freakazoid does the universal sign for thinking someone's lost it (whirling their finger around their temple while going "cuckoo"), Dr. Mystico claims Freakazoid thinks he has a clock in his head.
    • One of the things he hated the university calling him was Wendell, lumping it in with being called mad and insane, but that may have just been his colleagues calling him by his first name.
  • Continuity Nod: Candle Jack's name is never said aloud during the whole episode, which makes sense as Freakazoid would remember doing so would allow the boogeyman to capture him or anyone else who said it.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Dr. Mystico, full stop. What do you expect from Tim Curry?
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Mystico abducts the heroes and villains for their assorted abilities, but Leonard Maltin was also abducted because he knows every movie ever made.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After Mystico says there will be time for questions later, Freakazoid points out there's only about ten minutes left in the show. Mystico then yells at him for wasting all that screentime on the plane.
Dr. Mystico: There'll be time for questions later.
Freakazoid: No there won't, the show's almost over.
Dr. Mystico: Well if you hadn't wasted all that time on the plane-!
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: Freakzoid and Cosgrove lead the Lobe and Cave Guy into the jungle to search for the missing Longhorn, while Steff and Cobra Queen stay behind to repair the plane. Candle Jack asks if there's anything he can do, so Freakazoid suggests he go scare Professor Jones, which he does.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Dr. Mystico fled from his university after being banned for being crazy. He wanted to prove them wrong by vindicating his research by taking over Cleveland (or rather, the world), but it's clear to the rest of the cast, hero and villain alike, that he really is crazy just from his mannerisms.
  • Say My Name: "LEONARD MALTIN!"
  • Schmuck Bait: Freakzoid tells the passengers to look out a window to see something really special.
The Lobe: I don't see anything.
    Freakazoid: [popping up] BOOGA-BOOGA!
  • The Stinger: "That was quite a jolt, Freak."
  • Shout-Out: To Plan 9 from Outer Space in the cockpit scenes.
  • Take Over the World: Mystico says he intends to use his army of super-apes to take over Cleveland.
Cosgrove: Don't you mean the world?
Mystico: I meant the world, yes. What did I say? Cleveland? Oh, I always do that!
  • They Called Me Mad!: "They called me mad! Insane! WENDELL!"

"That was quite a jolt, Freak."
