Recap / Frasier S 10 E 18 Roe To Perdition

Go To

Frasier and Niles become dealers for an underground caviar smuggler, while Martin and Daphne go through a ridiculous amount of red tape when trying to return some money the bank mistakenly gave Martin.

Trope:

  • Digital Piracy Is Evil: Customs agents storm the Russian freighter causing Frasier and Niles to think they're about to be arrested. An agent tells them that they don't care about the caviar, they're looking for counterfeit DVDs being carried on the same ship.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Roz develops a craving for caviar that plays out like a drug addiction.
  • For Inconvenience, Press "1": Martin tries to work his way through the bank's automated phone system, which for added annoyance is voice-operated at times. Frasier tries a shortcut by pressing certain keys but just gets the call switched to the Spanish option. When Martin goes down to the local branch to speak to someone directly, the manager appears to be making a call to the head office...only to get stuck in the same menu cycle.
  • Instant Taste Addiction: Roz doesn't see what the big deal is about caviar, and Frasier says she's never had proper caviar and offers her a taste of top quality Beluga caviar, before reminding her she's not invited to the party where it's being served. Since the whole caviar business is being presented as a drug deal, Roz becomes totally addicted based on that one taste.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Martin decides to cut his losses and accept the large amount of money the bank offers him at the end.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: The employees at the Bank, though in a twist, they end up giving Martin more money rather than keep him from getting it.
  • Plague of Good Fortune: What happens to Martin in the episode; when he tries to return the twenty bucks, he soon ends up being given a fortune.
