Recap / Frasier S 06 E 13 The Show Where Woody Shows Up

Go To

When Woody from Cheers comes to Seattle to re-connect with Frasier, he soon wears on Frasier's nerves.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Woody says he heard that Martin was a police officer, which Sam learned about in his guest appearance.
  • Exact Words: Woody calls into Frasier's show to say he's lost. Frasier thinks he's a random caller dealing with the pressures of the world, but Woody says he literally can't find his way out of the airport.
  • "Friends" Rent Control: Lampshaded. Woody assumes the other cast members are Frasier's roommates to help pay for his extravegant apartment.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Frasier and Woody had plenty of interaction on Cheers, but that was due to the former frequenting the latter's place of employment. They're initially thrilled to see each other again, but this is attributed to nostalgia for the good old days. Without the bar and their other friends, their inherent differences (the very reasons why they never hung out outside of the bar) become readily apparent.
Frasier: I have absolutely nothing in common with this man, except things that happened ten years ago.
  • Happily Married: Woody and Kelly are still married, and they have had at least one more child.
  • Irony:
    • Woody is amused by the prospect of Frasier serving him a drink instead of the other way around like on Cheers. Of course, Frasier just has Daphne get it instead.
    • Both Frasier and Woody were just too polite to simply admit the other was getting on their nerves.
  • Kissing Cousins: Woody's in town because he's attending a wedding where the bride and groom are both his cousins, and by extension cousins to each other. Niles comments on this using the trope name.
Niles: I assume they're kissing cousins.
Woody: Oh, they're doing a lot more than that! That's why they have to get married.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When suggesting making plans to hang out years down the line, Frasier and Woody agree with the only appropriate word in-universe and out-: "Cheers."
  • Mail-Order Bride: Woody mentions that Cliff Clavin almost got married to a mail order bride, but after spending a few days with Cliff she decided she was better off back in Bosnia.
  • Man Hug: Frasier and Woody, upon seeing each other.
  • Noodle Incident: Woody recalls a prank in which he and Frasier put a ferret in Cliff's mailbag. Frasier says Cliff's expression was unforgettable.
  • Special Guest: Woody Harrelson as Woody Boyd.
  • Written-In Absence: Kelly didn't make the flight, as she took the kids to visit her mother.
