Recap / Frasier S 04 E 24 Odd Man Out

Go To

When Roz backs out of dinner plans with Frasier because of a date with a new man, Frasier's search for a new dinner companion makes him realise everyone else has someone in their lives.

Tropes:

  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Frasier impulsively getting on a flight to Acapulco with a woman he's just met at the airport.
  • Eating Lunch Alone: Frasier attempts to go to dinner alone after Roz bails on him. A little boy from a nearby table invites him to sit with his family but Frasier insists he's fine alone. After a series of awkward moments with other couples the scene ends with Frasier approaching the family and asking if their offer is still good.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: Laura is a French-speaking cellist with a taste for sherry played by Linda Hamilton.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Martin says Daphne's new boyfriend Greg is "gorgeous" and refuses to back down when everyone stares at him for the comment.
  • Limited Social Circle: Once again, Frasier is at a loss when he realises Roz, Daphne and his family are all busy with other plans.
  • Mile-High Club: Niles shares a story of meeting a woman on a plane who propositioned him by asking if he wanted to join the club.
Niles: ...rather than admit I was unfamiliar with the term, I whispered back, "I really don't travel enough to make that worthwhile."
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Frasier is intrigued by the messages Laura accidentally leaves on his machine. He decides to go meet her at the airport in the hopes they might hit it off romantically. While they do get along, Laura apologetically tells him she's already married.
  • Zip Me Up: Daphne asks Niles to help zip up her dress and he gets his tie caught in the mechanism, forcing him to trail behind her as she walks to the powder room. Naturally, this is when Frasier arrives home.
Frasier: Niles, there's something on your tie.
Daphne: Doctor Crane was just helping me with my dress, and now he's caught.
    Frasier: (pointedly) Yes, he is.
