Jumbalydia gives Chase and the gang a map to the "Gruel Academy", a prestigious school for Foodon Chefs aiming to fight for the Rebel Movement as Combat Cooks. The protagonists soon meet Chef Crock Pop, the founder of Gruel Academy and Oslo's previous student. After putting Chase through an initiation by cooking Fried Rice (he doesn't get a chance to eat it yet because of a back injury), Crock Pop allows him to join the Academy along side his grandson, who is revealed to be Chet, the chef Chase battled on the Floating Foodon Tournament. It isn't long until Chase becomes overwhelmed by the Academy's grueling exorcises and occasionally tries to sneak out of the school, while Chet attempts the same, both are constantly captured by Gruel Academy students and dragged back for more training.
Chet suggests that he and Chase should borrow a special scroll hidden in the academy, that is said to hold all the secrets of the Combat Cooks, and can make them into greater Foodon Chefs. Unknown to the protagonists, Clawdia is hiding within the walls of the Academy, and also wants her paws on the scroll to bring to King Gorge. She gets her chance during the cover of darkness, and breaks into the building that houses the scroll to steal it herself.
Morning comes and Crock Pop is told of the theft, and is understandably devastated. Chase and Chet offer to look for the culprit, but it doesn't take long for Clawdia to come back to the school to brag about stealing the scroll. Clawdia plans to bring the scroll to King Gorge, and than tear down the Gruel Academy to build a Gormandizer Training Center. Chase and Chet challenge Clawdia to a Foodon Battle for the scroll and to save the School.
Clawdia summons Bearafooda, a giant bear Foodon with a cookie-shaped head. Chet whips up Rap Scallion, a rapping onion Foodon with nun-chucks, while Chase summons Fried Ricer. Both Foodons barely make Bearafooda flinch, and are beaten down. Pie Tin attempts to assist with Sir Dumpling, but is also defeated. It isn't until all three chefs power up their Foodons with Power Toppings that they are able to defeat Bearafooda together. Despite losing, Clawdia steals the scroll anyway, only to learn that the scroll she took was blank, a fake that was swapped by Crock Pop. Defeated, Clawdia flees while being chased out by Gruel Academy students. Chase impresses himself with how much he has improved and leaves the Academy with the rest of the gang. Chet attempts to tag along, but Crock Pop keeps him behind to train more.
