Dwight and Sherry’s faiths are tested as the group is pursued by the horde from Strand’s moat.
- Black-and-White Insanity: Wes says he should’ve gone with Derek because at least he was honest… though it was being honest about joining a death cult that intended to wipe out as much of humanity as they could. Dwight and Sherry outright call him out on this.
- But Now I Must Go: Morgan decides he must take Mo far away to get her away from the coming war on the Tower.
- Call-Back:
- Wes mentions how he killed his brother Derek when he turned out to be a member of Teddy’s death cult.
- Dwight taunts Wes with how he used to try to be Negan’s lieutenant in order to try to provide a better life for himself and the people he cared about back in Season 7 of the mothership show.
- Kill the Ones You Love: Alicia is aware she may have to do this to Strand, who she still cares about.
- Made of Iron: Wes shows no sign of being slowed down by the gunshot from Sherry the next time he confronts them.
- Shoot the Shaggy Dog: Subverted. Strand’s entire moat began following Morgan despite John, Sr. sacrificing himself to them to try to distract them from Morgan’s escape. However, Morgan decides to make the most of it by luring them into the crater, depriving Strand of one of his greatest assets and giving the group an opening to attack the Tower.
- Then Let Me Be Evil: Dwight pretends to be willing to join the Tower after Sherry admits she’s afraid he’s going to defect to him, but it’s a ruse to give Sherry a chance to escape.
- What the Hell, Hero?:
- Dwight is hurt that Sherry believes he’s got the potential to defect to Strand. He's more understanding on this a bit when she admits to him that she's pregnant, which she legitimately believes would be a reason for him to defect for her and their baby's sake.
- Alicia doesn’t like that Morgan is moving fast to attack the Tower, mostly because she’s stalling due to being afraid of taking the fight to Strand.
