After an ICE agent is fatally shot at an ICE vs. DEA hockey game, the team attempts to find the shooter who they believe may also be targeting Congressman Curtis Grange, who was at the same game.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Asshole Victim: Deconstructed. Although Congressman Grange is a morally repugnant politician for his anti-immigrant rhetoric, his beliefs stem from the murder of his wife by an illegal immigrant which Grange blames on a broken immigration system. Grange's death leaves his son Ethan devastated who has just lost both of his parents and is now an orphan.
  • Crusading Widow: Deconstructed. Congressman Grange's wife was murdered by an illegal immigrant, a loss that motivated Grange to promote his anti-immigrant rhetoric against what he sees as a broken immigration system.
  • Oppressive Immigration Enforcement: The killer is revealed to be motivated by his parents' deaths due to them being deported back to El Salvador after peacefully living in the US for decades in spite of the clear evidence they would be killed by the same brutal gang they originally fled from, and overall presented sympathetically, especially as the judge (his second victim) had a reputation for harsh decisions on undocumented immigrants and ensured they were deported before he had a chance to appeal. However, the ICE agent who arrested them (his first victim) is presented as simply a member of law enforcement doing their job (and implied to think the law is too strict). Likewise whilst the loudly anti-immigrant Congressman Grange initially comes across as a repugnant bigot and a stereotypical hard-nosed conservative, he turns out to have a sympathetic motivation and as he reveals to OA his actual views on immigration are really more moderate and nuanced, admitting that whilst he would prefer to focus more on his actual views, the reality is he's lagging behind in an election year and firebrand anti-immigrant rhetoric is what appeals to his voting base and financial backers.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: OA stops by Grange's home to visit Ethan who is still grieving for his murdered father. He offers Ethan an application to join the FBI when he gets older and promises to help him through the whole process. Despite his grief, Ethan is grateful and tearfully hugs OA.
  • Token Good Teammate: Although Ethan loves his father, he does not seem to share his father's anti-immigrant rhetoric. He aspires to join the FBI and is more willing to listen to the FBI's safety recommendations. Ethan also forms a bond with OA who comforts him in the wake of his father's death and promises to help him through the FBI application process.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Congressman Grange ignores the FBI's safety recommendations and steps out of the ballistic barrier to greet his followers, an act which gets him killed in front of his son and OA.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: As his father bleeds out in his arms, Ethan shouts at OA for failing to protect his father.
Ethan: "You promised you would keep him alive! This is your fault! You could have stopped him from going on stage! You're the FBI!"
