David, Kristen, and Ben investigate the case of a teenage who seems to have revived after being dead for almost three hours

Tropes

  • The Alcoholic: Father Augustus has a history of being a problem drinker, which is one reason why the Church is uncomfortable with the possibility he may have presided over a miracle.
  • Back from the Dead: The team suspects that their new subject, Naomi, is this.
  • Cassandra Truth: Kristen tells D.A. Cormier about Leland being a psychopath and stealing her psychiatrist's notes, but Cormier writes it off as professional jealousy.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Leland's visit to David at the beginning of the episode, which starts with him going into extreme, vulgar detail about the intricacies of David's sexual fantasies about Kristen, and ends in him, annoyed that David won't give him a response, proceeding to recite the entirety of Who's on First in a bored, emotionless monotone.
  • People in Rubber Suits: Kristen shows her daughters a "making of..." feature on the streaming show that may or may not be giving both her and Laura nightmares about George. George's actor Marty Matulis appears as an actor being made up and talking in a high voice about how he likes to scare people.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: The hospital collectively turns out to be one. The reason why the Hannah was mistaken for dead is that they're simply quicker to call time of death on black patients.
  • The Reveal: David's second visit to the rave club reveals that he attempts to recreate his visions via Higher Understanding Through Drugs. Presumably this is what Leland is referring to when he talks about "the second time he saw God."
  • Spooky Photographs: Bernadette May's ghostly image appearing on the footage of Naomi Clark undergoing compressions is never explained, despite the efforts of Ben and his tech-savvy sister.
