Recap / Empath: The Luckiest Smurf - The Birth Of Psycheliana

Go To

A three-chapter story that briefly runs through the period where Empath and Smurfette have a child together by the name of Psycheliana.

This story provides examples of:

  • Fainting: Smurfette faints and then is brought to the infirmary to be given the news that she is now pregnant.
  • Feeling the Baby Kick: When Smurfette feels her baby kick inside her stomach, Empath feels it inside himself as well.
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Though the term is not used in this story, Tapper does discuss with Smurfette about how her pregnancy can tempt her into the desire to lose the baby. Smurfette, wanting to be the good mother, adamantly chooses to keep the baby for the sake of her husband Empath.
  • Morning Sickness: Empath also experiences them during the early part of Smurfette's pregnancy, indicating the psychic link between himself and the child.
  • My Secret Pregnancy: Smurfette becomes pregnant with Empath's child while Empath was away traveling on the seas, but Smurfette wishes to keep the pregnancy a secret among herself, Papa Smurf, Doctor Smurf, and Polaris Psyche until Empath returns. Tapper does find out, but it's only through a spiritual revelation, and he also intends to keep it a secret. Empath eventually discovers that he's the father of Smurfette's child upon his return to the Smurf Village, and even before that, when on his return trip he experiences Morning Sickness
  • One Drink Will Kill the Baby: Smurfnip is used instead of alcohol as what Empath finds Smurfette using while she's pregnant with their child. Fortunately, no harm happens, but Empath does scold the Smurfs responsible for giving Smurfette the smurfnip.
  • Screaming Birth: Averted, as Smurfette's delivery of her child was rather painless.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: At the beginning of the story, Empath and Smurfette are in bed together kissing each other, then it cuts to Smurfette saying goodbye Empath as he goes off on a journey to find Smurfette Island.
  • Time Skip: A few time skips occur as Smurfette's pregnancy with her child progresses to the birth.
  • Wacky Cravings: Smurfette eats bugs, flowers, and dirt — a shout-out to "Elogium" in Star Trek: Voyager where Kes has similar cravings while going through a false puberty stage.
  • Wanted a Son Instead: Not Empath, but Hefty wanted Empath's first child to be a son instead of a daughter, as it turned out, and was disappointed by the end result.
