Recap / Dragons Riders Of Berk S 8 E 6 Mi Amore Wing

Go To

Mala and Dagur arrive on the Edge to announce their engagement, and their displays of affection only serve to highlight how different their engagement is to Astrid's. As she worries she and Hiccup are growing apart despite knowing each other for years, the group must protect an Armorwing from Krogan, who is after it for the Dragon Eye lens welded to its body.

Tropes:

  • Amazon Chaser: Dagur seems to really like it when Mala hits him.
  • Audience Surrogate: Hiccup's and Astrid's confused, incredulous reactions to how quickly Dagur and Mala got engaged mirrors the reaction of many in the audience.
  • Can't Live Without You: Dagur nearly breaks down in tears being apart from Mala for a few minutes.
  • Comically Missing the Point / Dramatically Missing the Point: When Astrid tries to get Hiccup to notice that she is wearing his necklace by asking him if he’s noticed anything different, he responds by noticing that there is a Dragon Eye lens stuck to the Armorwing.
  • Continuity Nod: Dagur has an arrow on his back, due to having to block it as part of one of the trials to become king of the Defenders of the Wing, which Snotlout failed to do in "Saving Shattermaster."
  • Date Peepers: More like "Kiss Peepers," but Fishlegs, Dagur, and Mala all witness Hiccup and Astrid kiss at the end, looking on in clear approval.
  • Desperation Attack: The Armorwing has the ability to launch bits of its armor off in a fiery molten metal attack, but it comes with the drawback of leaving its weak hide exposed.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Even Toothless and Sleuther find Dagur's and Mala's Sickeningly Sweethearts routine unbearable to watch.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In the reaction shots of the others to Hiccup's and Astrid's Big Damn Kiss at the end, everyone else looks either surprised or embarrassed, but Dagur's frowning — he simply looks...sad.
  • Held Gaze: Hiccup and Astrid briefly share a loving gaze into each other's eyes after kissing, before being interrupted by Fishlegs, Dagur and Mala, who had been watching them earlier.
  • Homoerotic Subtext: Dagur's behavior towards Hiccup has always been loaded with this, but the vibes are through the roof during the proposal scene.
  • Luminescent Blush: Mala and Dagur do this throughout the episode. Astrid also does this when Hiccup declares his love for her.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Played for Laughs with the arrow in Dagur's shoulder.
    Dagur: Hiccup!
    Hiccup: Dagur. Mala. A-arrow?
    Fishlegs: Are you guys okay?
Dagur: Never better! Why do you ask?
Fishlegs: You have an arrow sticking out of your… [Beat] nothing.
  • Orbital Kiss: Hiccup's "Shut Up" Kiss to Astrid at the end of the episode ends up like this.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Mala stabbing a dummy that looks like Dagur while apparently showing the twins her "Dance of Blades", and then saying everyone at the wedding will receive a "special gift" from her while beheading the dummy, leads the twins to think she's secretly evil and planning to kill Dagur and everyone else at the wedding. It turns out the "Dance of Blades" is referring to fresh "blades" of grass, and her planned gift is simply gift bags.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: At the end of the episode, Hiccup does this to Astrid.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Dagur and Mala.
  • Tsundere: When Dagur goes in to tickle Mala during their flirting, Mala reacts negatively (giving a sour look and punching him in the arm) only for both of them to blush and smile awkwardly, implying that they both have done this more than once.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Dagur mistook the feelings of love he has developed as "this one little spot of fat [he] can't seem to get rid of."
