Summary
History of Gohan Black is the first Dragonball Gohanverse OVA that explores the El Hermano incident and how it formed the being that is Gohan Black.
Tropes:
- Cessation of Existence: After deeming Gohan to be weak, El Hermano ends up erasing Universe KAL10. Gohan would have met the same fate had Zamasu not fused with him.
- Children Are Innocent: While observing mortals and seeing mainly corrupt adults, Zamasu decides to study Gohan. Sure enough, Gohan's kind-hearted natural helped show Zamasu that there was some good in mortals.
- Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Chi-Chi sports these after the death of her husband, though they regain their light when she hears Gohan crying for help.
- Emergency Transformation: To prevent Gohan from being erased from existence, Zamasu fuses with him, creating Gohan Black.
- Face Death with Dignity: While he's fading away, Gohan's actually at peace with his fate, much to Zamasu's surprise.Zamasu: I guess you'll do those human things and start acting out. Probably curse a god or two or-Gohan: This... (smiles) This is fine.Zamasu: (chuckles) D-Don't be so foolish, human. You're going to cease to exist. Why would you be okay with that?Gohan: I guess... it's because it's too lonely to live without my family. Besides, isn't it human to be with the ones that you love?
- Humans Are Bastards: Like his canon counterpart, Zamasu initially believed that mortals are nothing but blights on the world. It didn't help that his six-month observation only showed him some of the cruel parts of humanity like unnecessary violence and infidelity.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Chi-Chi leaps in the way of El Hermano's finger beam to save Gohan, getting shot in the heart in the process.
- Origins Episode: The OVA shows how Gohan Black came to be.
- Rule of Three: During the montage at the beginning, when it cuts to the Son family, it shows how the Goku's heart virus gets progressively worse.
- Soap Opera Disease: Like Future Goku, UKAL10!Goku also passes away from an unknown heart virus.
