- Adaptational Angst Downgrade: While still having her freak out due to not initially knowing what's happening to her body, Dorothy's first period in this continuity is a considerably better experience for her than in the original comics. Rachel Pollack's run in the comics established that when Dorothy got her first period, some other children made fun of her for menstrually bleeding in front of them by calling her a "monkey on the rag" and that her own mother subsequently told her to her face that she should've been aborted (which was made a lot worse in retrospect after John Arcudi's run retroactively established that the Spinners were Dorothy's adoptive parents), plus Dorothy often expressed self-loathing over how her menstrual cycle made it difficult to control her powers. In this continuity, when Dorothy has her first period at the bathroom of a convenience store, the female clerk is there to guide her through it and explain to her that what she's experiencing is normal and only a sign that she's entering adulthood, with no indication given that Dorothy's powers are affected by her menstrual cycle.
