Episode 3: The Charybdis Incident

While Heather engages Yyric for possession of the Reddick House, Zami must work to avoid the consequences of a dangerous prediction.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Sexuality: While Anne is never given a sexuality in the original series, she is shown to have married a man (Asimo Boonchuy) in the 2-3 years since the epilogue of The Hardest Thing.
    • Also, while she is stated to have been bisexual in the original series, Sasha is never shown having explicit feelings for any person of ang gender. Here, she is shown to have fallen for, dated, and eventually married a woman (Heather Waybright).
  • Disney Death: Heather is believed dead after Yyric shoots the visor out of her mech, but it is revealed that she ejected herself from the mech just before Yyric's bullet fired, saving her life.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: This happens to the demon-possessed Yyric when a furious Heather dries a shiv through his chest- but it turns out, by the virtue of "His" healing magic, Yyric is Not Quite Dead.
  • Not Quite Dead:
    • Midway through their fight, Heather tips over Sergeant Cain's sedan directly on top of Yyric, sending him crashing through the vehicles' sunroof. After the car lands, Heather lifts up the hood and, finding a stomach-sickening display of human carnage under the hood, believes Yyric dead- but it is revealed soon after that he only lost an arm.
    • Later on, Heather pulls a concealed shiv from beneath her jacket and impales Yyric, but at this point "He" intervenes and healed the wound with the same charcoal-like skin that makes up the lieutenant's lost arm, saving his life.
  • Precision F-Strike: Lieutenant Mc'Coy of all people uses one on Zami when trying to force her to put down the Abomination blade. This fails.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: "Him", while possessing Zhan Tiri's body, states that "The Fall" (the catastrophic event referenced in Mother Olm's prophecy in the Prologue) is only eight weeks away. However, other than confirming "His" knowledge and involvement in the event, we still have no indication of what, exactly, "The Fall" is or entails.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Just as Zhan Tiri predicted, Zami and Mc'Coy end the chapter in a duel over whether to allow Mc'Coy's remaining troops to flee the scene.
