The Story We Never Told opens with Kari looking over TK's second novel, the story we watched on Digimon Adventure 02. We then receive the shocking news (other than the fact that TK and Kari are married). This is not what really happened. It seems that what happened horrified the kids. They don't like remembering it. But Kari is angry with TK for disgusing the truth and convinces him to write what really happened.
In the past things are fairly similar a new school year is beginning in the real world while Ken is expanding his empire in the digital world. With one exception: Ken has capture all the partner digimon except Patamon and Gatomon. TK meets Yolei, who apparently has no concept of hygiene, and Cody and they head to school. Upon arriving they meet Davis, who is exceptionally foulmouthed and appears to be Yolei's mortal enemy. TK then runs into Kari and they reunite with a simmering Davis in the background. After school ends, Davis attempts to intimidate TK, but backs down when Tai arrives on the seen. Yolei then appears out of nowhere saying that there's some weird program on one the school computers that includes the name Digital World. At that Tai, TK, and Kari take off for the computer lab with a very confused Davis following. Once there they run into Izzy who guesses that they'll be able to go to the Digital World again. Suddenly three beams of light shoot out of screen, one hitting Davis in the head and the other two landing in a trash bin. The beams of light turn out to be Digivices. The kids then hold their Digivice up to the computer and are pulled in one by one. Izzy is about to go when Yolei and Cody walk in and discover the Digivices in the trashcan.
