Recap / Diagnosis Murder S 2 E 13 The New Healers

Go To

Community General is serving as the backdrop to The New Healers, a Medical Drama making waves on television. Things hit a particular snag when lead actor Dixon Gallow secures the lead in a movie and plans to drop the show like a hot kidney stone.

"The New Healers" displays symptoms of the following tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Dixon was an arrogant piece of work that gave more than a few crew members reasons to flatline him.
  • Big Eater: Savannah, though the more troubling aspect of it is the fact that she eats and purges.
  • Bluffing the Murderer: When Mark has the solution to how Dixon was poisoned, he has the cast and crew recreate Dixon's final scene with the original props. Savannah Bellows flakes on trying to get gloves to use the towel to mop up Mark's head without gloves, giving away that she is the killer. Mark reveals soon after that the murder weapon towel was thrown away a while ago, meaning Savannah could have gotten away with it if she acted the scene out.
  • Broken Pedestal: Amanda becomes disillusioned with TV doctors after seeing Lyle Fairbanks (who played her hero growing up) and Lincoln Cutter at each others throats.
  • Career Resurrection: The New Healers is Lyle's In-Universe, making him particularly steamed at Dixon bailing on the show.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • Norman having the parking lot cleaned, which gives the murderer their murder weapon.
      • Related to the point above, the fact that Dixon apparently had garlic breath before he died, and the fact that Delores has it hours after slipping in the parking lot.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Cliff Eisensen, the New Healers prop master who is found to have rat poison in his system.
  • Formerly Fat: Both Savannah and Dixon were this in high school, to the extent where they were the only date the other could get. Once Dixon did manage to lose a few pounds, he dumped her.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Dixon Gallow's character and himself are shown wearing a shirt only in the surgery scene where he gets murdered.
  • Special Guest: Diedrich Bader as hammy obnoxious actor Lincoln Cutter.
  • Stylistic Suck: The New Healers is a very ridiculous show, with doctors not wearing shirts, doctors making out with patients they have just given CPR to, and ridiculous emergencies.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: In order to steal a scene from Lincoln, Lyle Fairbanks gives him a cup of coffee laced with laxatives. Mark reveals Lyle has done this before to a director.
  • Touché: Mark scoffs when Norman says The New Healers filming in Community General means they're pulling in thousands a day without even having to handle one sick person. He concedes that Norman does have a point when he says the money will pay for a new MRI suite Mark has been vying for.
