Back to the Recap Page of Destiny.

With the legacy of your Guardian growing and the Last City starting to feel invincible, a Cabal army known as the Red Legion launch a full scale assault. Deploying a light suppressing net over The Traveler, all Guardians are cut off from their powers as their leader, Ghaul, drains the light from The Traveler.

Last City forces are scattered, but your Guardian is drawn into the European Dead Zone and upon finding a shard of the Traveler your powers are restored. Now the scattered forces must be brought back together to defeat Ghaul and save The Traveler.

Destiny 2 Base Campaign contains examples of:

  • Bag of Spilling: The opening attack destroyed the vaults of any weapons you might have had from the first game. After the first level you are left with very basic weapons and damaged armor, forcing you to start from scratch.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Guardians manage to defeat Ghaul and retake the Last City from the Cabal, while the Traveler has finally awakened and unleashes a wave of Light that spreads throughout the galaxy, re-empowers the remaining Guardians, disperses Ghaul's essence, and ushers in a second Golden Age. However, the Speaker and dozens or hundreds of Guardians are permanently dead, along with Traveler only knows how many civilians, while the remaining Guardians have to rebuild the City from the damage caused by the Cabal occupation while still being surrounded by threats. There are also a number of rising threats, including the previously unknown Fallen House of Dusk with its mysterious intentions. Additionally, events on Titan and Io indicate that Savathûn has succeeded Oryx as the new God-Queen of the Hive and mistress of the Taken, and that she's coming for Earth. Finally, The Stinger reveals an armada of black pyramid shaped ships, presumed to be either the Darkness or its agents, awoken by the Traveler's Light making their way towards Earth.
  • Bonus Dungeon: The Leviathan Raid has little to do with Ghaul beyond being Cabal centric, though the Lore established that he overthrew Calus and exiled him to the Leviathan. The stakes are also unusually small, Calus invited the Guardians over with the promise of loot and to "grow fat from strength."
  • Brought Down to Normal: All Guardians are cut off from direct access to the Light, your ghost has just enough energy to help heal your wounds but can't bring you back from the dead in this state.
  • Lighter and Softer: The game's script tends to lean more towards World of Snark and Denser And Whackier, since a lot of characters, even the more serious ones, crack a lot of jokes and engage in humor, despite what's at stake.
