Recap / Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba - Epilogue

Go To

With Muzan Kibutsuji defeated for good, Japan is at peace—finally free of all Demons, especially as the remaining members of the Demon Slayer Corps get to live peaceful lives away from those monsters. About a century later in the Reiwa era, their descendants and the reincarnations of those who lost their lives fighting Demons continue to live out their lives in modern-day Tokyo.

Tropes present in the Epilogue:

  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Oh yes... The fact that all of Japan are finally free of man-eating monsters and the surviving members of the Demon Slayer corps can live at peace, knowing their efforts in destroying the Demons were not at vain. It's taken to the next level in Chapter 205, where it is revealed Japan is continuing to prosper in the Reiwa era, and that almost all of the major characters have descendants and reincarnations living out in harmony at last.
  • Happily Married: It's all but confirmed the main Demon Slayer trio are able to live happy lives with their loved ones: Tanjiro to Kanao, Zenitsu to Nezuko, and Inosuke to Aoi. It's heavily implied given their descendants that Giyu, Sanemi, and a few other major characters were able to find loved ones as well.
  • Hereditary Curse: Massively subverted with Kiriya. The fact that he is still alive in the modern times as the oldest man in Japan all but confirms the Ubuyashiki curse killing off his ancestors at a young adult age is broken after Muzan's defeat.
  • Identical Grandson: Alongside the reincarnations, the descendants of the surviving characters in the main events clearly resemble each of their ancestors.
    • Kanata Kamado all but looks basically like a male version of Kanao, while his brother, Sumihiko, could pass off as Tanjiro's reincarnation.
    • Yoshiteru Agatsuma clearly resembles his great-grandfather Zenitsu (prior to his lightning strike), while his sister, Toko, could pass off as Nezuko's reincarnation.
    • Aoba Hashibira could pass off as the reincarnation of his great-grandfather, Inosuke.
    • Tenma Uzui, Gichii Tomioka, and Sanehiro Shinzaguawa could clearly pass off as reincarnations of their Hashira ancestors, Tengen, Giyu, and Sanemi respectively.
    • Tojuro continues the same Rengoku hairstyle as his direct ancestor, Senjuro (and Shinjuro to an extent), but his mannerisms and facial resemblance can clearly give off the impression he is the reincarnation of Kyojuro.
    • The three Butterly Estate servant girls, as well as Kotetsu, Kanamori, and Murata all have descendants of their own that clearly resemble them respectively.
  • Reincarnation: It's all but certain that a vast majority (if not all) of the characters that died during (and before) the events of the main story are reincarnated to live out their peaceful lives in the contemporary era.
    • Giichi, Giyu's descendant is hanging out with what looks to be the reincarnations of Sabito and Makomo, finally establishing a long-lasting relationship with the apprentices of Urokodaki.
    • The two gals that attend the Sekirei Woman's Academy clearly look to be the reincarnations of the Kocho sisters, Kanae and Shinobu.
    • What looks to be the reincarnation of Genya is seen working as a subordinate to Sanehiro, Sanemi's descendant.
    • The elderly men playing shogi look to be the reincarnations of Jigoro and Sakonji.
    • The twins sleeping in familiar blankets clearly give off the clue that they are the reincarnations of the Tokito twins, Muichiro and Yuichiro respectively.
    • The mechanic working in the "Haguzenuka's Mechanic" shop looks to be the reincarnation of the namesake. The chapter doesn't confirm the mechanic to be Hotaru's descendant (unlike Kotetsu's and Kanamori's descendants).
    • The diner couple clearly resemble Mitsuri and Obanai—heavily implying their Dying Declaration of Love after defeating Muzan worked well into their Reincarnation Romance.
    • The massive size of the kindergarten teacher that Yoshiteru takes notice of should give off a clue he is the reincarnation of Gyomei.
    • The happy family at the end of the chapter looks to be the reincarnations of Uta and Yorichii, finally giving the them the family they've always wanted since centuries ago.
  • Sole Survivor: Since he survived the Final Battle against Muzan (as well as the Demonized Tanjiro) Yushiro is the only Demon that is still around in the present day, now a renowned mysterious painter going by the name Yushiro Yamamoto. And because Kiriya will eventually die soon due to his advanced age as a human, Yushiro will be the last living memory of the main events of the series.
  • Time Skip: Chapter 205 takes place in the Reiwa era, about a century after the main events of the story took place in the Taisho era.
