Chekhov's Gun: Twice over. Firstly, the movie Norma watches before she leaves for the interview involves a man having had his soul captured by a camera, which she realises she can do to Temeluchus to get him out of Pugsley. Secondly, Norma remembers that the Dead End attraction takes photos of visitors, as do the other rides, so after Barney and Norma's phones are broken when they attempt to take a photo, they use the camera of another attraction instead.
Barney is introduced being friendly with his dog, Pugsley, but having a strained relationship with his family, not wanting to stay for dinner because his grandmother is coming over.
Norma is first seen watching one of Pauline Phoenix's movies, while having a lot of merchandise in her room, showing how big of a fan she is.
Failed a Spot Check: Barney and Norma don't see anything suspicious about the job application paper asking specifically for "humans", or using clip art and the Comic Sans font. When they go to the interview, Barney does get a bit suspicious of the fact that there are demon creatures there, but Norma just thinks it's a group interview.
Foreshadowing: The episode opens with a woman running into the Dead End house, seemingly being chased by something or someone. It isn't until later in the series that we learn who she is and what she was running from. Notably, despite looking almost exactly like Pauline, she lacks the latter's tooth gap.
Freeze-Frame Bonus: The advert for the job that Barney and Norma both want asks for "humans", has stock images, and uses Comic Sans as its font.
Heroic Sacrifice: When Temeluchus chooses Barney as his new vessel, Pugsley jumps in the way and gets possessed instead.
Not Quite Back to Normal: Courtney realises that there's a bit of Temeluchus missing from the photo he was trapped in. Meanwhile, Pugsley can now talk.
