Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 6 Dirty Money

Go To

F.O.W.L. agent Ammonia Pine has been scrubbing the printed ink off all the dollar bills in St. Canard, hoping to cause an economic crash that will allow F.O.W.L. to take control of the banks. S.H.U.S.H. director J. Gander Hooter assigns Darkwing Duck to the case, but the Masked Mallard clashes repeatedly with Agent Gryzlikoff, who insists that Darkwing do things by the book. And things go from bad to worse when Ammonia kidnaps Hooter, leaving Gryzlikoff in charge - much to Darkwing’s chagrin.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: One of the High Commands exchanges cleaning puns with Ammonia Pine.
  • Freak Lab Accident: Ammonia Pine's villain origin. She was once an ordinary cleaning lady at a research laboratory until an experimental cleaner exploded, with the fumes transforming her into a villainous Neat Freak.
  • My Way or the Highway: When Darkwing refuses to follow Gryzlikoff's methods, Gryzlikoff orders him off the assignment.
  • Neat Freak: Ammonia Pine, once an ordinary maid whose mind was warped by chemical fumes and is now obsessed with cleaning.
  • Not Now, Kiddo: While Gryzlikoff is arresting Darkwing and Launchpad, just as they were about to rescue J. Gander, Darkwing tries to tell him, only for Gryzlikoff to clamp his beak shut.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Gryzlikoff. After J. Gander gets kidnapped, he becomes the acting head of S.H.U.S.H and forces Darkwing to do things exactly by the book, which unfortunately interferes with Darkwing trying to stop Ammonia.
  • Sherlock Scan: Darkwing is able to guess how Hoover was kidnapped by detecting microscopic scratches from Ammonia's vacuum cleaner.
  • Weapons That Suck: Ammonia Pine uses a vacuum cleaner to kidnap J. Gander Hoover. Or as Darkwing puts it, "Hoover has been Hoovered!"
