Tropes in this episode

  • A Day in the Limelight: Detective Will LaMontage, JJ's boyfriend, plays a significant role in this episode.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the bank blowing up.
  • Double Take: Garcia and Reid meet Rossi on their day off, him coming out of a hotel and telling them it's his bed time. Then Strauss comes out of that same hotel seconds after, looking slightly dishelved. Cue comical Double Take by both Garcia and Reid.
  • The Ghost: The female UnSub has been caught on camera multiple times, and multiple international agencies have tried to figure out her identity, but they've all come up empty.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: The whole team. The beginning montage shows how they intended to spend that day: JJ is woken by her boyfriend and son, and while said boyfriend goes to work she plays soccer with her son, Hotch is playing with his son and his girlfriend shows up. Garcia and Reid go to a convention, Rossi apparently had a thing with Strauss, and Morgan helps Prentiss decide whether or not she wants to buy a house.
  • Shout-Out: To Die Hard. Several small elements, but not enough to add up to "Die Hard" on an X. First, Will tells the Marine who's helping patch him up to tell JJ that he said he's sorry, because she already knows he loves her, very much like what McClane told Powell. Then, the plan, we learn, is to rob the bank, cover their escape with an explosion, and escape in an emergency vehicle, just like Hans' plan at Nakatomi Plaza.
