The Perfect Storm

Directed by Felix Enriquez Alcala

Gideon: Mark Twain wrote, "Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it."

A pair of UnSubs kidnap young women, film their rapes and send the videos to the parents before killing the women. The team profiles them as a dominant and a submissive partner, but fail to guess that one of them is a woman, mostly because they think they shot the submissive one before they found the dominant one. The dominant one turns out to be the submissive one, and his wife the real dominant one.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Amber was sexually abused by her brother and father. Her mother covered it up, and told the authorities she was lying.
  • Death by Despair: In the prologue, the victim's father dies of a heart attack when he saw the video of his daughter's rape sent by the unsub.
  • Female Misogynist: Amber.
  • Henpecked Husband: One of the UnSubs.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Amber Canardo is the dominant of the criminal pair, and almost gets away with it.
  • No Honor Among Thieves:
    • Despite the two UnSubs working together, the dominant of the two tries to pin the blame on the submissive and the accomplice.
    • The submissive ultimately gives in when he realizes the dominant didn't really care about him.
  • Suicide by Cop: Joey pulls this because he was on his third strike, so he would've been incarcerated for life.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Although Amber's husband is much taller and more physically imposing than she is, she's still in control.
  • Visible Victimology: All the shown victims are blonde. It's implied Amber chooses them either for their resemblance to her or her mother, as she was brutally raped and beaten by her father and brother, and her mother covered it up.

Hotchner: Philosopher Kahlil Gibran wrote, "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls. The most massive characters are seared with scars."
