The Crimson King

A man who is sometimes two little girls steals the BAU's identities and carves words into people's bodies. The team assumes the real culprit is serial killer Peter Lewis manipulating people with DID.

We meet Luke Alvez, a cop who transfers to the BAU to help track down the escaped serial killers.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Bilingual Bonus: Luke's introductory scene has a smuggler mistaking him for a Mexican. He tells her he's from the Bronx, but can speak better Spanish than her if she insists.
  • Cruel Mercy: Invoked by Hotch to Alvez about his desire to kill Cullen, pointing out it's better to let serial killers rot in jail than let them go out in a blaze of glory.
Aaron Hotchner: I believe people like Daniel Cullen and Peter Lewis belong in an eight by five cell where they can live out the rest of their lives as failures, rather than die thinking they accomplished something.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: Garcia does not like Alvez, mostly because she does not want him to replace Morgan.
  • It's Personal: Alvez wants to capture Cullen, the serial killer who appears to have killed again, because Cullen almost killed his partner.
  • Multi-Gendered Split Personalities: Brian has DID and his alternates are little girls.
  • The New Guy: Luke Alvez, the new team member, is introduced while being undercover to capture one of the escaped serial killers.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted with the BAU member Tara Lewis and the serial killer Peter Lewis.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Luke encourages this trope when he tells Garcia about his "girl" Roxy, in mild retaliation for her insisting she has a boyfriend, which he doesn't believe.
