Prison guards are murdered on the job, and BAU needs to figure out if the culprit is a prisoner or another guard.
This episode provides examples of:
- Asshole Victim: Really all the victims since they were all involved in the underground fight club, but special mention goes to Randall Jefferson Jones, a Serial Rapist who is all but stated to have been sexually abusing his cellmate.
- Attempted Rape: One of the prisoners leads Callahan away to rape her, but gets stopped by Julio and then killed by a police sniper.
- Bookworm: The most helpful prisoner is also the one who reads the most. He only has about four books, but he reads them over and over.
- Bury Your Gays: Devon and Butler were made to fight because they were "more than friends".
- Karmic Rape: Randall Jefferson Jones, a Serial Rapist who sexually abused his cellmate, is raped and killed in the shower by the UnSub.
- Prison Riot: The captain of the guard arranges one in the climax, with Callahan and Morgan getting caught up in it.
- Serial Rapist: Randall Jefferson Jones is in jail for multiple counts of rape. The prisoner who tried to rape Callahan is also implied to be one.
- Uncertain Doom: Tom Polinsky is last seen being taken out on a stretcher after being stabbed, allowed to bleed out and beaten by a prisoner.
- Wardens Are Evil: Well, the warden seems okay, he's the one who called the BAU, but the guards and especially the captain of the guards are running an underground fight club where they force the prisoners to fight.
