Maddie: Fires are raging! Bodies are building up! Crimson Banks is in chaos! This must be stopped IMMEDIATELY!

Learning that Franca Capecchi has planted a bomb at the Concordia Train Station, Maddie and the player rush to the scene to try deactivate the explosive before it blows up. There, both officers encounter not only the ticking bomb, but also the body of escaped convict and Irish gang leader Seamus O'Neill with his head bashed in.

Tropes:

  • All or Nothing: Adrienna had this mentality regarding the Mob War, as she wanted the Irish gang to decimate the Italians instead of making a truce like Seamus and Giulietta intended. It's the reason why she decided to kill Seamus.
  • Back for the Finale: Adrienna Brassiere and Giulietta Capecchi reappear as suspects in this case, which is the last one set in Crimson Banks. Franca Capecchi, who last appeared in Case 30 but has been mentioned multiple times throughout the district, also makes a return.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: Franca describes the entire Rochester family as this when you interrogate her about Vittorio's affairs with them.
Isaac: We would like to know which Rochester fell from the grace of their name!
Franca: Which Rochester, <Player's Name>? Ha! That entire family is rotten! Rich people can't be trusted. Don't you know that by now?
  • Bittersweet Ending: The district and the whole Mob War Story Arc ends this way, as the war finally manages to be stopped for good with Seamus' death and Franca's arrest. However, a lot of people, both from the gangs and regular citizens, have died in the process, including ones you were in good terms with such as Vinnie, Bridget, or Commissioner Baldwin, while others have been incarcerated or left with nothing after the bloodshed, such as Timmy, Dermot, and Giulietta.
  • Bludgeoned to Death: How Seamus was killed, courtesy of a standing ashtray.
  • Bomb Disposal: Seamus attempted to disarm the bomb planted by Franca, but was interrupted by Erica (who mistook him for the one who planted the bomb and shot him) and killed by Adrienna before he could. When you find Seamus' body with the bomb, you manage to properly disarm it for good.
  • Book Safe: You discover one belonging to Giulietta, where she has been storing a bottle of poison to kill herself a la Romeo and Juliet, something you thankfully prevent.
  • Bubblegum Popping: Viola does this during one of her analyses, wanting to follow the bubblegum fad that has been growing in Concordia.
  • Call-Back: Erica Dupri reappears as a suspect after her last appearance in Case 28.
  • The Climax: This case serves both as the end of Crimson Banks and also the conclusion of the Mob War Story Arc you've been dealing with since Sinner's End, as both the Italian and Irish gangs have been defeated for good.
  • Continuity Nod: One of the crime scenes is the Capecchi's old house that burned down, which was previously mentioned in Case 7.
  • Decapitated Army: Maddie correctly theorizes that, with Finley and Franca in prison and Semaus and Vittorio dead, both the Irish and Italian gangs are done for good and the Mob War has finally come to an end, putting an end to said chapter in the history of Concordia.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Giulietta is seen suffering a big case of this throughout the whole case, even indulging into Drowning My Sorrows and Self-Harm as a result.
Giulietta: <Player's Name>, what do you want now? My mother's in jail. Both my sister and father were murdered...
...And now the love of my life is dead! What's there left to say?
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Lawson sentences Adrienna to life in prison without parole for the murder of Seamus, as he's completely done regarding the gang wars and wants to set an example with her. Naturally, Adrienna considers this an overreaction.
Adrienna: Life in prison?! But all I did was kill one man!
  • Driven to Suicide: Giulietta considers doing this during the investigation, as you find a bottle of poison she's been keeping inside of a Book Safe and later slashes her arms with a knife during the Additional Investigation. Thankfully, she manages to get better by the end.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Giulietta appears with a bottle of whiskey during her second interrogation, drinking to ease the pain she's going though as a result of Seamus' death.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Adrienna tells how you she tried to impress Seamus and the gang by doing risky jobs (such as spying on Vittorio when he was still alive) but Seamus was never impressed by any of them, even claiming that Adrienna could not be trusted, something that greatly frustrated her.
  • Eternal Prohibition: Subverted. At the end of the case, Chief Wright informs the team (and specially Maddie) that Mayor Castletown has lifted the alcohol prohibition in Concordia due to the city's economy taking a hit.
  • Gum In Hair: In an unusual case of this trope, the killer left a piece of chewing gum in Seamus' hair after killing him, confirming that the culprit consumes it.
  • I Have No Daughter!: Although not explicitly said, it's clear that Franca doesn't consider Giulietta part of her family anymore, as she discovered she was dating the man who murdered Vittorio and even tried to kill her for it.
  • The Last Dance: Franca wanted to "end things with a bang" by blowing up the Concordia Station as her final gang leader action.
  • Last Episode, New Character: This case introduces Colum O'Callaghan, an old friend of Seamus from Ireland, as a suspect.
  • The Man Behind the Man: During the Additional Investigation, you discover that a member of the Rochester family was in cahoots with Vittorio, and even incited him to kick people out of their houses back in Coyote Gorge to make business with him and their lands for the railroad company. Due to this, the Flying Squad decides to investigate the Rochester family in Wolf Street, the financial district of Concordia and one of their strongholds.
  • Matricide: Giulietta storms the airship with a gun in Chapter 3 to kill her mother, believing she was the one who murdered Seamus. Fortunately, you manage to stop her.
  • Misplaced Retribution:
    • Erica shot Seamus in the arm when she found him holding the bomb at the train station, not knowing that he was trying to disarm it in the first place.
    • Giulietta later attempts to kill her own mother due to believing she was the one who killed Seamus.
  • Offing the Offspring: Franca attempted to kill Seamus and her daughter Giulietta by luring them into the train station so the would die with the explosion, as she disowned her when she discovered Giulietta was still with Seamus.
  • Peace Conference: Franca tried to lure Seamus and Giulietta to the station with one of these to kill both of them with the bomb, although her plan failed when Seamus found it.
  • Put on a Bus: Giulietta leaves Concordia for the time being to clear her head and give herself a break after the Trauma Conga Line she's been experiencing for a while.
  • Self-Harm: While not explicitly stated, during the Additional Investigation you find a bloody knife that Viola confirms has Giulietta's blood all over it, and she also appears with bandages all over her arms when you talk to her, pretty much confirming that she did this.
  • Shout-Out: Romeo and Juliet is mentioned.
  • Skewed Priorities: When you speak with Erica, she looks more concerned about her train being damaged by the bomb that the other havoc the explosion could've provoked.
Erica: <Player's Name>, I heard there was a bomb here at the station! It could have damaged my train! My poor train!
Maddie: Yes, your train could've been damaged... as well as the whole of Concordia Station...
  • Starting a New Life: At the end of the case, Giulietta decides to move on and leave Concordia for the time being with this purpose, as she needs a fresh start to recover from everything she's been through.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Giulietta has a heart necklace with her and Seamus' initials engraved and the coordinates to their meeting spot, which is the park you visited in the previous case.
Giulietta: All I have left is the necklace he gave me... and this bottle of cologne water. Both remnants of our ill-fated love! How can life be this cruel?!
  • Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Adrienna killed Seamus because she considered his betrayal to be unacceptable, believing that all the Italians had to die and a truce shouldn't be called.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Seamus used to be best friends with Colum back in Ireland, but their friendship took a hit when Seamus left the country and permanently settled for Concordia instead of returning to Ireland with money for the potato farm he and Colum had been growing.
  • Worth Living For: Giulietta decides to start a new life and not kill herself when she finds the musical box her father gifted her when she was still a child, finding it to be beautiful like many other things in the world that are worth living for.
  • You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With: When you interrogate Franca regarding her husband's illegal business with the Rochester family, Franca refuses to talk due to fearing for her life, claiming that the Rochesters are a force to be reckoned with and you shouldn't be bothering them if you want to live.
