Dead cop indeed.

A Grimsborough Police Department detective named Ed Dunkin is found shot to death in a subway station.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Ed was a corrupt Dirty Cop who tried to kills his supposedly best friend just because he gave him an ultimatum of either stopping being a criminal or else he would get reported to the authorities.
  • Broken Pedestal: Ed, not only for his best friend and partner Harry, but for Jones as well, who he considered a role model.
Jones: I guess when the good men fall, they fall hard.
  • Dirty Cop: The victim, Ed Dunkin, was already in the deep end long before his death: dogfight betting, deals with thugs, and prostitutes were just some of the crimes he committed. It's the reason why Henry, his partner, killed him.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This case is the only one in the franchise where all the aspects of the Killer's Profile are purely in their appearance.
  • Foreshadowing: Jones finds a business card from Marconi inside Ginger's bag, which makes him wonder if she has any relation to him. We later find out that she indeed does.
  • From Stray to Pet: Grace adopts Angel's dog after it runs away since he was using them for dog fighting.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: Ginger, who is shown to be quite friendly and in good terms with Jones and even provides you with a few clues for solving the murder.
  • Karmic Death: Not only Ed was a Dirty Cop with a long record of corruption, but he also tried to kill Harry when he confronted and threatened to report him to the higher ups. It's probably why Judge Hall only gives Harry a 4-year jail sentence with parole eligibility in 2 years.
  • Killing in Self-Defense: Ed tried to murder Harry first, so they fought until Harry shot Ed.
  • No Adequate Punishment: What Harry thinks of his sentence.
Harry: ...2 years. That's all I get for killing the man who taught me everything. This is the Justice I was fighting to preserve?
  • Pimp Duds: Zeus. Just look at him.
  • Redemption Rejection: Harry tried many times to make Ed change his ways to no avail.
Harry: I didn't want them to think of him as a bad man, a cheater! He was my best friend!!
Jones: Then why didn't you stop him?!
Harry: I tried! But he wouldn't listen! He never, ever, LISTENED!
  • Shout-Out:
    • Zeus strongly resembles Snoop Dogg.
    • At the end of Zeus's side-quest, as a reward he gives you a pair of glasses to help you style up your looks. The glasses in question have a red-colored frame with tiny yellow lightning bolts on the sides, and they're called "Flash Goggles."
    • In the Riverbed scene, there is a sponge and a pineapple, underwater.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Harry and Ed before the latter became a Dirty Cop.
