Bernard, Craig, & Jessica get locked out of their house and must find a spare key while trying to survive the cold.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: The Williams kids need to get inside their home to get the car keys. Once they do get a key, the car gets destroyed in the process, negating the need to get inside in the first place.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: When going over to Alexis's house to get the spare key, Jessica’s excited to play musical chairs. While that’s going on, Bernard completely forgets their original purpose for coming over.
  • Christmas Episode: The Williams kids are supposed to be meeting their parents at the family Christmas party, but they get locked out of both their car and house.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot:
    • In the end, Nicole tells Bernard that he should have told her they were locked out and she would’ve understood.
    • They also might have avoided much of their time looking for a spare if Jessica had mentioned her spare key was on the property in the first place.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Kelsey keeps her keys inside the "Impenetrable Chest of Keys", where the chest has a padlock on it. Unfortunately, she placed the key for the lock inside the chest, unintentionally making it even more impenetrable.
    • Jessica hid her spare key by throwing it in their house's gutters. When Bernard asks if she has a trick to get the key down, she admits she doesn't have one.
    • Bernard is willing to do anything to look responsible, but doesn’t stop to think how irresponsible all the damage they do to the Christmas decorations and the gutter will make him look.
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: When the gutter falls on the Williams’ car, the roof is crushed, all the windows get blown out, and the engine catches on fire.
  • The Exit Is That Way: After the Williams kids decide they need to go to Alexis’s house to get Bernard’s spare key, Craig heroically says he’ll lead the way and goes running off. Bernard then has to correct him that her house is in the opposite direction.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: The Williams kids and Kelsey have this reaction when Kelsey reveals that the key they need to unlock the box that has the spare house key inside of it is, itself, inside the same box.
  • Instant Ice: Just Add Cold!: Because Bernard refuses to wear a winter coat, by the time he and his siblings reach Kelsey's house, he's shown frozen in a block of ice.
    • The noodles he gets from Kelsey also immediately freeze into a block of ice that slides out of the bottom of the takeout container.
  • Irony: When Craig thought of giving one of his two friends a spare key to his house, he chose Kelsey over J.P. because he thought she would be more responsible with it. Turns out Kelsey's key is unavailable because the box she locked it in can't be opened because she also locked the key to it inside. After their car is totaled getting Jessica's spare key, the Williams kids end up being rescued by J.P. and Laura, who happened to have a spare key the whole time, meaning the kid Craig thought would be the most reliable wasn't and vice-versa.
    • Although, J.P. claims to use the key to go in and out of the Williams' house at his leisure, so he's not that responsible.
  • The Key Is Behind the Lock. Becomes something of a Running Gag. First, Jessica locks the car keys in the car. Then Bernard leaves the spare car keys inside the house and Craig locks the door before he can get them. Then they go to Alexis to get her spare key, but it got passed around the other teens until Gibson left it back at the Williams home. Next, they go to Kelsey, who put her spare inside the “Impenetrable Chest of Keys”, along with the key to the lock for the chest.
  • Key Under the Doormat: Jessica hid her spare key by throwing it into the gutter. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to get it down.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Craig acknowledges that the Williams kids being locked out of the house has already been done in another episode.
  • Malaproper: Jessica calls binoculars “Bernard-culars”.
Jessica: Now I can see into forever! Just like Bernard!
Bernard: Hey now, my eyes aren't that bad.
  • Oh, Crap!: Laura's reaction to learning for the first time that J.P. regularly uses the spare key to Craig's house to hang out there when no one's home.
  • Parlor Games: Alexis's idea of she and her friends going "buck wild" is playing musical chairs, in which Jessica wins by shoving everyone off the chair before they can sit down.
  • The Reliable One: Bernard calls himself the responsible one as he’s reassuring his mom that he has everything under control.
  • Running Gag:
    • Someone saying "It's kinda funny when you think about it" whenever they explain what happened to each spare key.
    • His siblings calling Bernard “Nar Nar” once they find out it’s Alexis’s nickname for him.
  • Shout-Out: The title card is done in the style of the logo for Home Alone.
  • Squeaky Eyes: Craig and Bernard both audibly blink when Jessica tells them that she has a spare key and that it’s back at their house.
  • Winged Soul Flies Off at Death: Bernard's soul flies out of his body after realizing Craig just locked the house door with the car keys inside. Noticed by Jessica.
Jessica: Was that your Christmas spirit?
