When Craig decides to keep a lightning bug in a jar, he disrupts the delicate balance of Summer.
Tropes:
- Bug Catching: In this case, catching fireflies for wishing.
- Catch Your Death of Cold: For being out in the rain without proper raingear, Craig ends up getting sick.
- Fever Dream Episode: The second half of the episode has Craig get sick from being out in the rain and hallucinating that his firefly is the Spirit of Summer, telling him that he must restore the order by making his wish. Later, Craig sees his friends with weird faces, looking "like that face-switching app."
- Human Cannonball: The trio begin the first day of summer intending to use J.P. as a "human slingshot", with his sleeves pinned to the ground, when it starts to rain. They were planning on trying the human cannonball the next day.
- Make a Wish: The Creek kids go to the meadow on the first evening of summer to catch fireflies and make wishes on them; as usual, it's treated as Serious Business. Craig keeping his firefly so he can make his wish later is what sets off the plot.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Did Craig keeping his wish firefly really cause it to rain for days, or was it just a coincidence? And did he really talk to the Sprit of Summer or, as he himself points out, did he just have a fever dream?
- Please Put Some Clothes On: Jessica is not amused when Craig begins to take off his school clothes in front of her upon arriving home.
- Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Craig has to make his wish in the meadow to stop the rain and save summer.
