That dog was sweeter than, Puddin' in a Pie Tin

A Plot: When Brent makes a fuss after his preferred seat at the bar is taken by someone else, Phil sets up a special VIP section just for him. Brent asks off-duty Karen to act as a bodyguard, but she takes it too seriously.

B Plot: Hank asks Lacey for help after a night of drinking leads to him spending the night at her house and misplacing his truck keys.

C Plot: Davis is insulted after Karen leaves him a crib note for how to fill out his paperwork, and asks Wanda for help with his memory problems. However, Wanda ends up distracted by all of the gear in his cop car.

D Plot: Emma gets upset at Oscar for being "Captain Kerfuffle" and making a fuss over trivial matters.

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Wanda ends up playing with cop gear and driving the cop car around far more than she actually helps Davis with his memory problems.
  • Batman Gambit: Brent eventually realizes that his VIP section is being envied by the rest of the bar, so he ends up inviting everyone into the cramped area...so he can sneak out and reclaim his favorite bar seat.
  • The Cameo: Brett Kissel appears as a country music singer, singing about his dead dog Puddin'.
  • Coolest Club Ever: Brent's VIP section turns into this, with other patrons willing to buy Brent a beer or bribe Karen with potato chips in order to gain access.
  • Hourglass Plot: Oscar eventually realizes just how much of a kerfuffler he is, and tries to be more polite when Phil is late getting him and Emma drinks...only for Emma, who just spent a half-hour in the crowded VIP section without receiving a single drink, to be the one that makes a fuss.
  • Irony: The B and C plots link up at the end when Hank remembers giving Wanda his keys the previous night, but Wanda (supposedly talented at remembering things) can't remember where she left them.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Wanda may not have been the best choice for Davis to ask for help with memory problems, considering how easily she's distracted by pretending to be a cop. And in the end, when she's asked to remember where she left Hank's keys after being entrusted with them, she's clueless.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In Davis's case, all the effort to help him remember paperwork has done nothing but muddle his formerly-perfect memory for country music. And in Lacey and Hank's case, they never find Hank's keys during the episode, and Hank remains an unwanted guest at Lacey's...joined by Wanda, whose recollection is so foggy that she thought trying to follow Hank's steps would jog her own memory.
  • Shout-Out: Phil's favorite treat, Cucumbawamba, is named after the band Chumbawamba. Wanda even paraphrases their most famous song, "Tubthumping", when describing her distaste for the snack
Wanda: They're gross. I chew one down, but it comes up again.
  • Something Blues: Davis perfectly remembers his favorite country songs, so Wanda suggests he can use them to help memorize what all his paperwork is for. They end up listening to a bunch of sad country music he likes, with topics about deceased pets, highway heartbreak, an ex-wife taking a truck in the divorce, and so on.
  • Toilet Humor: Wanda getting far too interested in various cop gear leads her to think she can actually take care of some hoodlums defacing a port-a-potty. They end up locking her inside and tipping it over while Davis is distracted by country music.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Hank's memory of the previous night is incredibly spotty due to drinking, and includes mis-remembering that Lacey offered to let him sleep at her house if he got too drunk to drive.
