Recap / Codex Equus The Angel Vale Retcons

Go To

  • Backstory Invader: Honeyguide uses the Torquem Memorias to first insert herself into the Angel Six's backstory and then gradually hijack it entirely to become the hero instead.
  • Big Damn Reunion: After the Torquem Memorias is destroyed, Honeyguide is defeated, and both Ashfall and Angel Vale are restored to the mortal planes, many of the Angel's Six reunite with their loved ones. While Aerri and Edel reunited with their respective adoptive families (with Shining Dove joining in), Sakit and Rongoa reunited with their respective mentors, with only Tere working to make sure everyone was accounted for.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: After Honeyguide's defeat and ther restoration of both Angel Vale and Ashfall to the mortal planes, many Death deities and their Angels would work hard in ushering those who died to the proper afterlife-realms. Wicked dead like Heilung were dragged off to the Hell-Realms; Heilung in particular was dragged away by not only Fret Pick, one of Moon Ray's friends, but also Heilung's victims like Askar and everyone who died thanks to his medical malpractices.
  • Freak Out: Sherlock has a panic attack after learning about Angel Vale's disappearance because he developed a brotherly relationship with his friend, Rongoa, and was for a time completely unable to contact him to make sure he was okay.
Sherlock: Please be okay, please be okay…
  • Groin Attack: After beating up Zähmen as payback for his sexually predatory behavior and keeping her drugged so she'll remain his Sex Slave, Aerri threatens that he'll "get something from [her] down there" — even placing her killing claw on a specific area on his body — if Zähmen refuses to reveal how he was able to get out of jail and get his old position back with Aerri as his subordinate. A fearful Zähmen complies to her demands.
  • Karmic Death: Heilung was Cherub Cove's previous Minister of Medicine and an utterly corrupt Dragon who believed he had the power to pick who lived and who died. His darwinistic beliefs led to the deaths of countless innocent civilians, including Askar, Schurke's twin brother who devolved into a feral beast due to being given the wrong treatment for his Bestial Regression Syndrome. He also was responsible for the deaths of Fremder's mother and stepfather because he disliked Limette's openminded views, leaving Fremder an orphan. Heilung eventually meets his end when, during a confrontation with Tere and his police squad, he has his throat violently torn out by Schurke. After Honeyguide's defeat, Heilung's wicked spirit was dragged away to the Hell-Realms by Fret Pick, Askar, and the spirits of everyone he killed.
  • Psychopomp: Askar, Schurke's younger twin brother, is revealed to have become an Angel of Death following his death.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Moon Ray's new Philosopher's Stone is a purple crystal glowing with moonlight and radiating with eldritch energy that made people's heads ache just by looking at it. As a "Preeminent"-ranked god who had re-Ascended, Moon Ray's power is so strong that even his Philosopher's Stone, while useless to him, was able to play a vital role in destroying the Torquem Memorias.
  • Revenge: Askar's initial motivation as to come Back from the Dead so he can kill Heilung for not only giving him the wrong medicine for his Bestial Regression Syndrome, thus forcing Tere and Schurke to kill him when Askar eventually succumbed to it, but also severely traumatizing both Tere and Schurke for years after the fact. However, Askar ultimately settles for getting the last laugh by becoming an Angel of Death and waiting for Heilung to die so he'll drag away the Dragon responsible for so much suffering off to hell.
  • Rewriting Reality: Honeyguide and Zähmen utilize the Torquem Memorias, an ancient artifact book with the power to warp memories and, to a more limited degree, reality to fit whatever is written in it, in order to steal the Angel Six's happy ending and in Zähmen's case enslave Aerri.
  • Spanner in the Works: Both Moon Ray Vaughoof and Heroic Island are two of the biggest reasons why Honeyguide's Rewriting Reality attempts go to shit. Without their insight, the Angel's Six would have had a much harder time seeing through Honeyguide's manipulations. Moon Ray and Heroic Island's Philosopher's Stones also play an important role in stopping Honeyguide - more specifically, destroying the Torquem Memorias that allowed Honeyguide to turn Angel Vale and Ashfall into her own Villain World. While Moon Ray's Philosopher's Stone countered and burned away the Torquem Memorias' power, Heroic Island's was able to bring Ashfall and Angel Vale out of the Pocket Dimension both were trapped in and enforce the new reality Sakit wrote.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Shining Dove decides to use a bad pizza to break Sakit out of the memory curse. As it turns out, Sakit is already free and had the exact same plan, resulting in them running into each other while heading to put it in motion.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: While visiting Aerri at her workplace, Rongoa discovers that Zähmen had been drugging her into compliance by putting sleeping pills designed for non-Draconic patients into her coffee. This enrages Aerri so much that she smashes the coffee pot against the wall in fury... and brings her closer to breaking the Torquem Memorias' hold on her.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Honeyguide absolutely loses her shit when the Torquem Memorias is destroyed and her deception exposed screaming at the Angel Six to kill her and foaming at the mouth before she faints from sheer rage.
  • Villain World: Angel Vale and Ashfall have their memories (and to a degree reality) rewritten so Honeyguide and Zähmen can make the Angel Six's story their own.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Justified. Despite the Torquem Memorias being a powerful divine artifact that could warp reality according to the whims of its writers, Honeyguide can't use it to kill the Angel's Six and their allies outright. As both Rongoa and Shining Dove point out, writing things like "Razorbill kills all of the Angel's Six" won't work because the Torquem Memorias' power depends on its users' writing skills, so anything with no reasonable buildup or too many plotholes involved won't make it activate. And plus, Honeyguide needs the Angel's Six alive because otherwise she wouldn't be able to sell her story that she's the hero.
Shining Dove: Honeyguide may be a raging narcissist, but I think… I think as much she hates to admit it, she NEEDS us alive. If she decided to kill us off then and there, how would her story even work?
Rongoa: Simply put it this way: Say if she decides to write, 'The volcanic eruption didn’t happen', there would be no motivation for Razorbill to enter Angel Vale and do what he did. If she wrote, 'The Angel's Six don't exist', it wouldn't work because she'd had to provide reasons and buildup for it. It's the same logic behind 'Razorbill kills all of the Angel's Six', because first, he can't fight us all at once, and second, there needs to be a set of circumstances put in place in order for that to reasonably work.
