When word gets out that NASA is planning to colonize the moon, the KND attempts to stop this.
Tropes that appear in this episode:
- False Flag Operation: The KND set up a fake moon to trick Numbuh 4's family and NASA to prevent them from finding out about the KND Moon Base.
- Gaslighting: A heroic example where the KND trick NASA and the Beatles family (Numbuh 4 included, because he Cannot Keep a Secret) into thinking they landed on the moon.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Numbuh 4 is completely uninformed about the KND's plan because they didn't trust him to keep it a secret from his family.
- Medium Blending: The episode opens with Sector V (sans Numbuh 4) watching live action footage of the actual 1969 moon landing. Numbuh 3's fake footage of the moon blowing up is also filmed in live action.
- Moon-Landing Hoax: In this universe, the moon landing was an elaborate hoax conducted by the KND themselves. They had stationed the Moonbase there long before the adults could reach it, and orchestrated the fake landing to prevent anyone from discovering it.
- Oh, Crap!:
- The KND reacts this way when Numbuh 4 attempts to leave the fake moon.
- Numbuh 3 diverted the missiles away from the moon by reprogramming them to another target; the fake moon. The KND watch in horror as the missiles come bearing down on them.
- The Reveal: The KND are actually the first to land on the moon. They faked NASA's moon landing to prevent the adults from learning about their moon base.
- "Truman Show" Plot: The plot of this episode is nearly identical to that of The Truman Show, with an outside party (the KND) using elaborate sets and special effects to fabricate a false reality around some unsuspecting characters (the Beatles family). Numbuh 1 even acts as the beret-wearing "director", just like the film's Big Bad Christof.
