Tommy, Sonia and Lee find that the training simulations in the Arctic Base are real.

Now Loading Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Parodied with the training robot's first level difficulty. It demands children go do some homework, but Tommy saying no causes it to simply shrug and give up.
  • Berserk Button: Sonia saying she's scared of the dark is initially portrayed as just a standard fear. Father ordering the mooks to forcibly lock the cadets in a dark room causes her to completely panic, but she ends up so angry about her pleas being ignored that she violently assaults three grown men at once while her partners are terrified at her rampage.
  • Bookends: The episode begins with Tommy, Sonia and Lee starting a simulation and ends with Sonia requesting another.
  • Captain Obvious:
    Henchman: Duh, it's locked!
Father: Oh, really? Guess we'll just have to pack up and go... (bursts into flames) OF COURSE IT'S LOCKED!!! (ice above him melts) Just GO! (Henchman cries and runs off) ...And you can forget about a Christmas bonus, pal!
  • Character Development: Sonia starts off as a Shrinking Violet but by the end of the episode, she's grown confident, spunky and is ready for another simulation.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Tommy's autograph book looks similar to the KND initiation module that Father is looking for.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This is an episode solely about Tommy and 2 cadets, and notably the only episode where no members of Sector V are present.
  • Elite Mooks: The Elite Ice Cream Men, who are introduced in this episode.
  • I Choose to Stay: After finding the escape pods, Tommy and Lee are content to bug out, but Sonia says they have to keep Father from getting the code module. She has to guilt Tommy into staying.
  • Killer Yoyo: Lee's weapons are his yo-yos, which he can use to reach far away items.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: Instead of the focus being on Sector V, it's instead on Tommy and 2 cadets, Sonia and Lee.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Father reveals that he can actually shapeshift by morphing his head into Numbuh 86 in order to prove to Tommy that the Moon Base attack was fake.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Sonia beats the living hell out of three Elite Ice Cream Men for trying to stick her in a dark room. Tommy and Lee are openly scared to witness this.
  • Not So Above It All: Father actually reacts in interest when he finds Tommy's autograph book actually has an autograph from Numbuh 362 herself.
  • Power Trio: Tommy, Sonia, and Lee turned into this by the end of the episode.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: After Sonia gets loose before she can be locked in a dark room.
    Sonia: I won't GOOOOOOO!
  • The Quiet One: Lee doesn't say anything until the end of the episode (other than calling things "cool"), exclaiming how happy he is that they stopped Father.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Could be more accurately describes as a Fear-Breaking Point when Sonia becomes so determined to not be placed in a dark room that she beats the crap out of three Ice Cream Men with her bare hands.
  • Rousing Speech: Sonia gives one in an attempt to convince Tommy and Lee to stay and prevent Father from getting the all-important module. Tommy's response is to call her nuts for wanting to go up against Father, so she has to glare at him instead.
  • Running Gag: Every time Father makes flames, ice melts on his head, thus extinguishing him.
  • Security Cling: Tommy and Lee do this in response to witnessing the horrible beatdown that Sonia gives the Elite Ice Cream Men.
  • Shadow Discretion Shot: When Sonia is beating up the Elite Ice Cream Men that were taking her and her friends to a dark room, the scene shifts so that Sonia and the villains are silhouetted in the background, while Lee and Tommy are in the foreground, reacting with every hit before holding onto each other for dear life.
  • Shapeshifting: It’s shown that Father has the ability to change his appearance and voice which he used to pretend to be Numbuh 86 asking for help.
  • Story Arc: This episode follows from Operation: E.N.D., with Tommy being at KND Academy, and beginning a story arc that continues through Operation: S.L.U.M.B.E.R. and ending in Operation: G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S..
  • Things Get Real: Due to being the only operatives at the base, instead of training, Tommy, Sonia, and Lee have to protect it from Father.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Father's reaction to a massive wave of water rushing towards him.
  • Understatement: After viciously beating up three Elite Ice Cream Men and seeing her teammates stare at her in shock, Sonia innocently says she doesn't like the dark.
  • Villainous Demotivator: Father loudly orders the mook tasked with opening the vault to get to work, screams at him to leave when he fails, and says he's losing out on a Christmas bonus over this. The guy reappears a little later complaining to a colleague about how mean Father was to him.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: It bears repeating, Sonia hates the dark.

Sonia

The normally-timid Sonia is so afraid of the dark that when she and the other cadets are about to be held prisoner in a dark room, she wails on the guards in a beatdown so brutal that it can only be shown in silhouette.

How well does it match the trope?
