Recap / Code Lyoko S 4 E 25

Go To

Aelita finds a photo of herself with Franz Hopper at the Hermitage. Jeremy tries to extract information from the picture, as mathematical formulas are visible on a chalkboard in the background. But the image winds up in the hands of Sissi, who passes the photo on to her father. This rouses the Headmaster’s curiosity: what is Aelita doing with the former academy physics professor?! It’s up to our heroes to protect Aelita’s secret …

This episode contains examples of:

• Bare-Handed Blade Block: How Aelita steals one of Ulrich's swords.
• Call-Back: Xanafied Aelita manages to steal one of Ulrich's swords by performing a Bare-Handed Blade Block, similar to how Ulrich was able to take his clone's blade in Revelation.
• Chekhov's Gun: The mathematical formula seen in the photo of Franz Hopper and Aelita turns out to be a program to reboot the supercomputer, which Jeremie uses to free Aelita from the Scyphozoa's control.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Ulrich suggests that Odd send a photo of Kiwi to a girl he liked as said-girl "loves little dogs". Yumi (despite the two still allegedly being Just Friends) gives Ulrich a full-on Death Glare and asks "And how do you know that?" Ulrich gives a comically scared "Umm..." as Aelita just laughs in amusement at the scene.
• Consummate Liar: During their confrontation with Mr. Delmas in his office, Aelita and Jeremie smoothly keep up the facade that Aelita is not related to Franz Hopper and maintain the cover of her false life as Aelita Stones.
• Continuity Nod: Jim references their Bootcamp training by him and say they'll have to use it to get by him when he refuses to let them follow Mr. Delmas (who's been possessed by XANA).
• Contrived Coincidence: Most of the episode's plot revolves around a really egregious one. Odd asks Jérémie if he can use his computer to send a picture of himself to a girl he wants to go out with, but somehow he manages to send the photo of Aelita with her father precisely to one of the last people the group would want to get their hands on it: Sissi.
• "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If Odd hadn't accidentally sent the picture of Aelita and her father together, the events of this episode wouldn't have happened.
• Forgot About His Powers: Aelita doesn't even attempt to fly when attacked by the Scyphozoa, presumably due to panic.
• Given Name Reveal: Aelita reveals to the rest of the group (except Jérémie, who already knew) and to the audience (some of whom may have figured it out by looking at the post-season one credits) that her real surname is Schaeffer. She reveals that Hopper was her mother's maiden name and that Franz Hopper's real name is Waldo Schaeffer (Franz being his middle name), having changed it to her mother's maiden name for a true fresh start.
• Homeschooled Kids: Aelita briefly mentions that she was homeschooled while she was living with her parents. This means that Mr. Delmas never met her before and after the return to the past is done, the group won't have to worry anymore about the principal's suspicions.
• Hopeless with Tech: Odd. How clumsy do you need to be using a computer to send an e-mail with the wrong picture to the wrong person?
• Oh, Crap!: Several instances of this...
• Odd sending the email to Sissi, complete with the incorrect photo.
• When Jim remarks the Lyoko group will have to use their former training by him to get past him, they simply nod and charge right on him in a group attack. As he sees this, his face all but spells this trope.
• Older Than They Look: Jérémie exploits this trope to avoid Mr. Delmas realizing Aelita is Franz Hopper's daughter. He says that if Aelita was indeed the girl in the picture, that was taken around 9 years prior, that would mean that Aelita would be 22 years old, not 13. (While Aelita may chronologically be 22 years old, she is still biologically 13 due to being Frozen in Time on Lyoko for nearly a decade).
• Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Aelita greets the Scyphozoa in fright, saying, "Hello, you slimy…ugly…jellyfish…"

Ulrich vs. XANAelita

A villainous case here : while William is an Absentee Actor in this episode, his combat theme starts playing as soon as the xanafied Aelita engages Ulrich Stern in a Star Wars-look-a-like sword fight. Xana's other monsters are also pulling all their stops, with the Tarantulas pressuring Yumi and the xanafied Jean-Pierre Delmas beating down Odd Della Robbia.

That being said, while XANAelita is clearly pummeling Ulrich, the former puts up a good fight.

How well does it match the trope?
