While watching a TV show about dreams, Clarence dozes off and enters a whimsical dreamscape. Here, he can turn his dreams into whatever he wants and even finds a new friend to play with. But when things turn nightmarish, Clarence must find a way to escape back to reality.

Tropes:

  • Comically Missing the Point: The man in the TV program lists “Dream Signs,” or things that indicate you’re dreaming, such as having more than five fingers and interactions with physical objects feeling strange. Clarence exhibits all of these “Dream Signs” but completely disregards them and only realizes he’s dreaming when he notices that his shoes are the wrong size.
  • Cutting Back to Reality: The episode cuts several times from Clarence’s dream back to reality where he’s sleeping on the couch, kicking Chad and drooling.
  • Dream Episode: Most of this episode takes place within Clarence’s dream world.
  • Dream People: A new character, Jeremy, is debuted in this episode, appearing to only exist in Clarence’s dreams.
  • Dream Weaver: Once he realizes he’s dreaming, Clarence is able to control his dreams and imagine all sorts of wild ways to have fun.
  • Eye Cam: We see through this POV when Clarence gets woken up by his mom.
  • Foreshadowing: The first sign that Clarence didn't actually close the garage door is that he's seen doing it in his regular clothes rather than in the pajamas he was wearing in the previous scene.
  • Gainax Ending: The episode ends with Clarence waking up from his dream and being taken back to bed. But then the host of the show about dreams that Clarence and Chad were watching appears in the foreground and stares at the audience. While he stands there, another version of him steps into the garage. The foreground host says "Dream sign", as the second host closes the garage door.
  • "Join Us" Drone: Jeremy tries to convince Clarence to stay in the dream so that they can play together forever.
  • Real Dreams are Weirder: Clarence’s dreams are just as bizarre and nonsensical as you’d expect.
  • Sleep Walking: Mary comes home to find Clarence having sleepwalked himself into the garage and trying to close the garage door like she had asked him to before she left.
