Tropes:

• The Blind Leading the Blind: What ultimately destroyed the island was depth charges being dropped on it when a US pilot mistook for a submarine. However, the bombs used would be completely inappropriate for their intended use (bombing Libyan submarines, something that notably does not have much water to bomb), and confusing matters is that the article has multiple newspaper citations that say "it happened", and not much else, and an Edit War broke out on the article, leading the crew to believe it's an urban legend, and newspapers reported on the story from one another. As of writing, this section is removed from the article.
• Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys:
  • Gary mentions that the French dislike anything English, including biscuits (calling them "Biscuits Anglais"). Gary goes one further and mentions that "We'll get to you" is what the Germans said to the French in 1939.
  • Matt mentions that Italy surrendered later on when asked how the island was reformed.
• Hiroshima as a Unit of Measure: Graham Island was apparently "two Starbucks, a McDonald's, and a parking area for doggers". Tom awards him a point for being close (63 meters).
• Inherently Funny Words: The repeated use of the word "kerploded."
• Separated by a Common Language: Invoked by Gary, when he mentions that Graham Crackers and Digestive biscuits are one and the same, something Matt didn't know (being English and all that).
• Shout-Out: After a discussion about how the Royal Navy claimed Graham Island for the British, presumably by planting a flag on it, we find out that the ownership of the island could not be established before it sank again.
