Recap / Chowder S 1 E 36 Banned From The Stand

Go To

Banned From the Stand is the 36th episode of Chowder.

Mung and Chowder visit Gazpacho's stand looking for something new, to which Gazpacho presents them with Flossberries, a fruit that turns your teeth green when used. After sampling them, Mung claims that they aren't ripe, stating that the shade of green they turned his teeth to are "grassy green", to which Gazpacho disagrees claiming that the shade is "emerald green", ergo they are ripe. A small argument breaks out between Gazpacho and Mung over who knows better, leading to Gazpacho banning Mung from his stand, as well as all the other stands in the market.

Mung and Chowder then attempt to find ways around the ban, only for Gazpacho to catch them in the act and ban anyone who assists them as a result. This causes Gazpacho to grow increasingly paranoid and starts banning virtually everyone from his stand in a manic episode, including himself. Now separated from his stand, Gazpacho is forced to sell garbage on the street. When Chowder asks why Gazpacho can't just lift the ban, Gazpacho reveals that for as long as his stand exists the ban shall remain in place. Then he gets an idea: if he can't lift the ban, he'll just tear down his stand and rebuild it.

With his new stand assembled, everything goes back to the way it was with Mung and Gazpacho finally making amends. Gazpacho then gives Mung some flossberries as a gift, only for Mung to comment that they aren't ripe, and Gazpacho quickly bans him once again.

  • Agree to Disagree: Gazpacho initially decides to go this route after he and Mung are unable to agree on whether the flossberries are ripe or not. Then he bans him from buying anything from his stand.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Due to the fact that Mung and Gazpacho are arguing over shades of green, it's hard to tell who is right.
  • Call-Back: Some of the fruits Gazpacho presents to Mung have been previously seen in earlier episodes. Grabbles? "Chowder's Girlfriend". Dingleberries? "The Thrice Cream Man". Bombegranates? "A Taste of Marzipan".
  • Code of Honour: Turns out the reason Gazpacho has the power to banish Mung from shopping at any stand is because the fruit merchants have a code that allows it.
  • Here We Go Again!: Right after the two make peace, Gazpacho offers Mung some flossberries free of charge, only for Mung to remark that they still aren't ripe, and Gazpacho banning him once again.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After going a bit crazy and banning everyone from his stand for petty reasons, Gazpacho ends up banishing himself, being forced to leave his own stand and sell "fruit" on the street in misery.
  • Jerkass Ball: Gazpacho big time. First he bans Mung from his stand due to them disagreeing on the ripeness of fruit, then subsequently bans him from buying fruit from any other stand in the market, then Chowder and Panini because they tried to help Mung buy fruit from his stand despite him being banned, and eventually everyone else for no other reason than sheer paranoia.
  • Mirror Monologue: Gazpacho has one when he goes on a banishment rampage, banning everyone in sight, including himself.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Gazpacho's reaction when he realizes he banned himself from his own stand.
  • Sanity Slippage: After catching Mung trying to buy fruit from his stand despite being banned, Gazpacho grows paranoid about everyone being in cahoots with him, which causes him to go crazier than usual, banning everyone left and right in a manic state and even talking to his own reflection before banning himself.
  • Title Drop: Gazpacho says the episode's proper title when he bans Chowder from his stand, albeit reluctantly.
Gazpacho: The hammer comes down! You are banned from the stand!
