Go To

Toad Town High is hosting a Talent Show, and Carl decides to participate. Unfortunately, his rival Sebastian is also back and is looking for vengance.

Tropes

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Oscar, who is supposed to catch his sister Janie as part of their performance for the talent show, gets distracted by a Tik Tok notification. Cue to Janie jumping off the stage and crashing.
  • Big Eater: Roberto's performance consists of him eating a pile of burgers.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Carl and Logan when singing "I Love It".
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Of all the things Sebastian could have gotten expelled for, Staffordshire expels him for cheating at the talent show.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After Sebastian is caught cheating at the titular talent show, he attempts to expose Gooper, Liam, Bob and Flaig as the ones for aiding him in doing so, but the four overhear him and give him another brawl outside of the school.
  • Dreadful Musician: Mary-Lynn. Steelix compares her singing to a cat screaming.
  • Fly Crazy: Tucker throws the 125 kilogram weights he was lifting at a fly that was bothering him. He ends up hitting Mr. Morris instead.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Stafforshire sees the Talent Show as a failure: All of the performances were awful, props ended up hitting a lot of people, and the only good performance was full of swearing.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Kylie says "Nani" when she sees that Dry Bones is going to perform a song at the Talent Show.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Gordy calling Roberto "lardass". While Roberto is fat, Gordy is even fatter, morbidly obese to be more exact.
  • Inept Talent Show Contestant: Everyone. Boo's Stage Magician act goes as well as you would expect, Mary-Lynn can't sing for shit, Tucker throws the weights he was lifting at one of the jury members (Mr. Morris to be more precise), Oscar and Janie fail to complete their gymnastics number due to Oscar getting distracted with a Tik Tok notification, Gordy’s standup comedy routine is awful, Roberto's performance is just him eating hamburgers, and Sebastian gets caught cheating and is subsequently disqualified. The only good act of the show is Carl and Logan singing a song full of explicit language. Needless to say, Staffordshire isn't exactly pleased with the outcome of the talent show.
  • Memetic Mutation: Dry Bones getting hit by a wrecking ball in the middle of his performance is this In-Universe. Someone even made a video of him getting hit by it for ten hours.
  • Performance Anxiety: Carl has stage fright and fears that he'll embarrass himself when he gets on stage, as the last time he did so he ended up peeing his shell because of how nervous he was (granted he was in 2nd grade at the time, but still).
  • Outside-Context Problem: Sebastian and Gooper and his cronies didn't count on Carl getting stage fright at the last possible moment and refusing to perform as a result. Because of this, the wrecking ball that was meant to hit Carl in the middle of his performance ends up hitting Dry Bones instead.
  • Produce Pelting: After being exposed as a cheater, the audience starts to pelt Sebastian with tomatoes. One of the members of the audience even throws a pumpkin at him.
  • Pun: Gordy's comedian acts during the talent show consist of these.
  • Saw a Woman in Half: Boo tries to saw Blooper's mother in half as part of his magic trick. Stafforshire calls his performance off before he can continue.
  • Spanner in the Works: Flaig accidentally spilling soda on Liam's laptop results in Sebastian's microphone changing his voice's pitch randomly and exposing his cheating.
  • Stage Magician: Boo tries to perform several magic tricks in the Talent Show. It goes just as well as you'd expect
  • Unknown Rival: Coach Johnson makes it clear to Felix that he does not approve of him dating Sydney, claiming that he doesn't deserve her. Felix doesn't seem to get the memo of this, not that he needs to in the first place.
  • Worth It: Carl gets two weeks of detention after singing a song full of explicit language, but says it was worth it because he ended up winning the Talent Show.
