Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 2 E 3 Quest For The Potion Of Power

Go To

Princess Zelda requests Captain N's help when the minions of Ganon start a violent search for a magic potion that can restore the evil wizard to his full power. Complications arise when Link gets sore working with someone who knows even more about Hyrule than he might.

First appearance of Link, Zelda and Ganon, with voice talents and general look imported from their segment on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While their basic character designs, and even their voice actors, were brought over from the Legend of Zelda segment on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Link is somewhat more mature, having dropped the whole Well, Excuse Me, Princess! bit. Zelda is also a lot less snippy toward him.
  • Attack Reflector: The "reflect" potion (supposedly based on the spell of the same name) that they use on Link's shield to send Ganon's spell back at him.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Unlike in previous video games and animated appearances, Zelda's redesigned outfit now shows off her navel.
  • The Blade Always Lands Pointy End In: Link's sword gets knocked out of his hand by Horsehead, and of course gets stuck in the ground tip-first.
  • Combat Pragmatist: In the desert palace the heroes run into a monster with a warhammer twirls it all over the place. Kevin just shoots it out of his hand before shooting him too.
  • Combination Attack: It takes shots from Captain N and Link's weapons at the same time to unhorse Iron Knuckle, then both of them plus Zelda to finish him off.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: In what is perhaps the first ever instance of the trope, Ganon upon being revived declares he works for no one before disposing of Mother Brain and becoming the villain for the rest of the episode
  • Mighty Whitey: In effect, since as someone who's played the game from the outside, Kevin knows all the tricks more readily than even Link, resulting in a fair bit of friction.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Given Kevin's whole Ascended Fanboy status it's pretty weird he only seems to be finding out he can visit the world of Nintendo's second-most-famous series this late into his stay in Videoland.
